Takino Suzuran Hillside National Park is opening Cosmos Festa 2026 on Saturday, September 12, as the first event of its long-running autumn program, Takino Autumn Colors 2026. In the Upper Country Garden, around 700,000 cosmos flowers set against the autumn sky will turn the hillside pink. During the festival, visitors can also enjoy autumn craft experiences, food, and music events held throughout the park.

Current Bloom Status as of September 1: Pre-Bloom, With Some Flowers Just Starting to Open
The cosmos are currently pre-bloom, with some flowers just beginning to open. Pink blossoms can be spotted here and there amid the green. Sunflowers and salvia in the Country Garden also remain in bloom for now.

Reiwa 8 Autumn Free Admission Days
With the cosmos coming into bloom and the weather turning more comfortable, the park is offering several free admission days this season.

2. Hokkaido Wakuwaku Kids Festa in Takino Park
Full-force outdoor play comes to Takino Park this autumn. "Hokkaido Wakuwaku Kids Festa," a popular event held at prefectural parks across Hokkaido, arrives at Takino, featuring the "Fuwafuwa Play Equipment Zone" lined with 11 giant inflatable structures, a working-vehicles exhibition, an insect exhibition, a fossil and gem digging experience, kitchen-car food stalls, and more outdoor play experiences for kids to enjoy. Details on individual activities, including which are free and which are paid, will be announced as they become available.

Takino Autumn Colors 2026: September 12 to November 10
This autumn's theme is "A Search for Color in Autumn at Takino." Before winter turns everything white, the park enters a season when its grounds fill with vivid color: it starts with the pink of around 700,000 cosmos in full bloom, followed by the reds, yellows, and oranges of autumn leaves that vary from area to area, kochia shrubs that shift from green to red as autumn deepens, dahlias known for their variety of colors, shapes, and names, Takino's colorful playground equipment, and the blue autumn sky overhead. Different corners of the park are colored in their own way throughout the season — see if you can find your own favorite color.

Dahlias in Full Color (Best Viewing as of September 1)
Dahlias, which bloom over a long stretch of autumn, are now approaching their best viewing period. Visitors can enjoy a variety of types, including large-flowered and pompon varieties. With such a rich range of colors, shapes, and flower names, see if you can find your favorite dahlia.

Fluffy Green Kochia (Best Viewing as of September 1)
Kochia turns a deep red in late autumn, but its fluffy green form before the color change can only be seen now. At the moment, visitors can enjoy the soft, rounded green kochia shrubs.
