Fumi Imamura's "Language of Flowers" Installation Opens at OIL by Bijutsu Techo Gallery in Shibuya PARCO on October 30

OIL by Bijutsu Techo Gallery, on the 2nd floor of Shibuya PARCO in Tokyo, is holding artist Fumi Imamura's project "Language of Flowers" in its in-store gallery space from Friday, October 30 to Monday, November 23 (national holiday), 2026.

Overview

Fumi Imamura is an artist who creates her work using flowers and plants as her main motifs. She collages watercolor paintings onto translucent glassine paper and also uses the ancient "encaustic" technique, in which pigments are mixed into beeswax melted with heat. Her drawings, cut out along the outlines of plants, resemble imaginary pressed-flower specimens, and the delicate branches, leaves and roots, which recall capillaries, bring a quiet sense of reassurance and warmth.

This exhibition centers on a special installation born from an idea the artist has long held, "giving flowers instead of words." A single-flower work, selected from the elements of her past installations, is handed over in a glassine paper envelope at the time of purchase. Buyers can enjoy it in their own way, whether by placing it in a favorite frame or box or quietly tucking it away in a drawer.

In addition to the artworks, the venue also sells a set of her first art book "The Warm House" (温かい家) and a special tote bag. The project aims to connect art and daily life through intimate communication, like handing someone a flower.

Message From the Artist

Among the fairy tales I loved long ago, there was a story in which a spell is cast so that flowers and pearls spill from the mouth every time one speaks. Flowers instead of words. I will do a small installation. I will place the flower of your choice in a transparent envelope.
