Japan-Exclusive Blended Malt "The Gauldrons Sherry Cask Finish #4" Limited to 900 Bottles Begins Shipping on October 15, 2026

Japan Import System Co., Ltd. (based in Chuo-ku, Tokyo) will begin shipping "The Gauldrons Sherry Cask Finish #4," a Japan-exclusive product from the blended malt whisky "The Gauldrons," to liquor stores nationwide on October 15, 2026. The Gauldrons is made with malt whisky from Campbeltown, Scotland.

This bottle is the fourth release (Batch #004) in the Sherry Cask Finish series. It was bottled especially for the Japanese market, and only 900 bottles have been produced.

Background and Concept

"The Gauldrons" takes its name from a dark, stormy inlet on the west coast of Campbeltown, Scotland. In Gaelic, the name means "stormy bay." The place has a rugged yet delicate landscape, and it is a special spot where the phantoms of the distilleries of the past still seem to live on. The series gives Campbeltown malt its own world, and its popularity is said to surpass that of its sister brand, the authentic Islay malt "Big Peat."

The packaging uses a red-based color scheme and gold foil, reminiscent of the first release. The whisky layers the rich sweetness that comes from sherry casks with a nuance of the sea that is typical of Campbeltown, resulting in a taste with depth.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Caramel-coated apples, flaked sea salt, and a pleasant cinnamon roll.

Palate: Crème brûlée, gentle smoke carrying a sea breeze, and sweet strawberry licorice.

Finish: Orange peel and cloves, followed by a long finish of dark fruit and freshly baked bread.

About the Remarkable Regional Malts Series

Douglas Laing's Remarkable Regional Malts logo

The Remarkable Regional Malts series is Douglas Laing & Co.'s signature blended malt series. Each bottle blends carefully selected whiskies that represent a particular Scottish whisky-producing region, in order to express the flavor and character of that region. The bottlings are non-chill filtered and uncolored, to respect the character of the ingredients.

The lineup features popular bottles that represent each region: "Big Peat" for Islay, "Scallywag" for Speyside, "Timorous Beastie" for the Highlands, "Rock Island" for the Islands, "Epicurean" for the Lowlands, and "The Gauldrons" for Campbeltown.
