GODIVA and Fukui's Hayakawa Mark Shared 100th Anniversaries with New Habutae Kurumi White Chocolate & Matcha

GODIVA Japan (Minato-ku, Tokyo) and Hayakawa, a traditional Japanese confectionery shop based in Fukui Prefecture that was founded in 1926, are collaborating to mark a milestone year they share — both celebrating their 100th anniversaries in 2026. Their joint creation, "Habutae Kurumi White Chocolate & Matcha" (羽二重くるみホワイトショコラ＆抹茶), goes on sale first at GODIVA Seibu Fukui on April 28, 2026 (Tuesday), followed by GODIVA shops in the Hokuriku area from May 8 (Friday), and select GODIVA shops nationwide from May 15 (Friday). The previously popular "Habutae Kurumi Chocolat & Framboise" also returns to shelves on the same dates.

Habutae Kurumi White Chocolate & Matcha

The new item combines a matcha chocolate ganache with chocolate-coated walnuts, nestled between layers of chewy habutae mochi and enclosed in choux pastry. The mellow, rich sweetness of white chocolate highlights the distinctive flavor of matcha. According to Hayakawa, careful attention was paid to the balance of flavors — the ratio of mochi to matcha ganache was calibrated so that neither overpowers the other, resulting in a filling with nearly double the ganache volume of the Chocolat & Framboise variety.

This returning favorite features Belgian dark chocolate ganache made with 72% cacao and raspberry jam, sandwiched between habutae mochi and choux pastry. The combination of rich chocolate, the tart sweetness of raspberry, and the soft chewiness of traditional Japanese mochi delivers a blend of Japanese and Western flavors.

If the habutae mochi and matcha ganache are not in the right proportion — too little ganache and the sweetness of the mochi takes over; too much and it becomes overly bitter. The goal was a pleasant bitterness, a pleasant sweetness, and a pleasant chocolate presence. The result is a ganache volume nearly double that of the Chocolat & Framboise.
