Hakata Yakitori Motsunabe Barisu Opens in Kawasaki – A New Izakaya for Relaxed Evenings

Sunrise Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Kawasaki, Kanagawa, CEO: Atsushi Kikuchi) has announced the grand opening of Hakata Yakitori Motsunabe Barisu on January 21, 2026 (Wednesday). The new restaurant addresses a growing need for relaxed dining options in the Kawasaki area, where redevelopment around the station has increased the nighttime population of single-person and dual-income households in their 20s to 40s seeking a comfortable place to unwind after work.

While the station vicinity has many fast-turnover dining establishments, options for a leisurely meal and conversation remain limited. Additionally, despite high search demand for motsunabe in the Kawasaki area, specialty restaurants with expertise in this dish are scarce.

About the Motsunabe

Signature Dish: Otoro Hormone Motsunabe (White), ¥1,699 per person (before tax)

Barisu's motsunabe features "Otoro Hormone" (prime beef offal) known for its melt-in-your-mouth texture. The carefully prepared domestic wagyu beef otoro hormone develops sweetness and umami when heated, blending with the broth and literally melting in your mouth.

The lineup includes three varieties: the "Signature Otoro Hormone Motsunabe (White)" that lets you taste the ingredients' natural flavors directly, the "Otoro Hormone Mentai Tororo Motsunabe" where mild tororo (grated mountain yam) meets the rich flavor of mentaiko (spicy cod roe), and the "Aka (Spicy Miso)" with addictive spicy miso.

Each variation has its own distinct character while allowing you to fully enjoy the deliciousness of the otoro hormone. For the finale, champon noodles that absorb all the broth's umami, gentle egg zosui (rice porridge), or rich cheese risotto are available, letting you savor the changing flavors and lingering finish until the last bite.

Each skewer is carefully prepared and grilled with perfect heat control, achieving a fragrant outside and juicy inside. The assortment allows you to enjoy different textures and flavors of various cuts, making it a recommended dish for first-time visitors.

Otoro Hormone Mentai Tororo Motsunabe ¥1,999 per person (before tax)

This original creative motsunabe uses domestic wagyu beef offal luxuriously. The fine-textured fat and rich umami characteristic of wagyu offal are achieved through careful preparation from initial processing to finishing, resulting in an elegant taste without any unpleasant odor.

By layering the moderate spiciness of mentaiko with the mild mouthfeel of tororo, the dish is rich yet has a light aftertaste. The offal's umami, tororo's gentleness, and mentaiko's accent unite to create a flavor you won't tire of until the last bite.

For the finale, cheese risotto prepared with broth full of absorbed umami is available. This proud dish is recommended not only during cold seasons but throughout the year.

Horse Chateaubriand Sashimi ¥1,599 (before tax)

The restaurant offers horse fillet sashimi with a melt-in-your-mouth texture. Horse sashimi is sourced from carefully selected regions with the best condition for each season, prioritizing freshness and quality.

The fine-textured premium fat overlaps with the red meat's umami, and the mild sweetness spreads with each bite. It's paired with Kyushu-Hakata's sweet soy sauce that enhances the richness of the marbled horse sashimi while bringing out the ingredient's natural flavor even more.

By changing regions according to purchasing conditions, guests can always enjoy "the most delicious condition available now."

Concept Behind Opening Hakata Yakitori Motsunabe Barisu

Background: In the Kawasaki area, while motsunabe has high search demand, there are few specialty restaurants with expertise, and Kyushu izakayas where you can enjoy drinks in a relaxed atmosphere are limited. Additionally, the encounter with a rare 50-tsubo (approximately 165 sq m) single-floor property and the presence of sister restaurants nearby for mutual customer referrals made the opening a realistic possibility. The restaurant aims to leverage yakitori techniques and operational know-how cultivated at the existing restaurant "Yakitori to Soba Tomiji" to create new options for the Kawasaki community.

Current Challenge: "Hakata Yakitori Motsunabe Barisu" brings to life a value that has been scarce in Kawasaki—a "Kyushu izakaya where you can drink leisurely," centered on yakitori and motsunabe. With approximately 30 varieties of skewers, authentic Kyushu shochu, motsunabe using wagyu beef otoro hormone, and "Mentai Tororo Motsunabe" that evolves the sister restaurant's popular dish, this represents a challenge that raises previous experience to the next level.

Future Outlook: Starting from "Hakata Yakitori Motsunabe Barisu," the company aims to strengthen its foundation as a regionally-rooted comprehensive food company spanning dining, planning, and wholesale operations, spreading Kawasaki's food culture both internally and externally.
