Hakuba Iwatake Mountain Resort is introducing a summer-only "Hakuba Morikaze Picnic" plan starting July 29 at its summit area, roughly 1,289 meters above sea level, where visitors can take in views of the Northern Alps.
Picnic items such as a small tipi tent, picnic rug, low table, and chairs are provided, along with ingredients for building an original sandwich, including roast pork made from Hakuba pork, colorful highland vegetables from Shinshu, and Hakuba blueberry jam.
The plan runs on a reservation basis with a limited number of spots available each day. In the resort's naturally rich summit area, which stays cooler than the lowlands, visitors can spend an out-of-the-ordinary moment that's only available here.
What Is an "Oshare Picnic"?
An "oshare picnic" (stylish picnic) is a picnic style in which people freely coordinate stylish rugs, baskets, and food to enjoy meals and photography out in nature.
In recent years, this style has been gaining popularity as an easy way to enjoy the outdoors and as a photogenic experience worth sharing on social media. Being able to spend relaxed time in a park or in nature without worrying about those around you, and enjoying free time with friends or family, are also cited as reasons for its appeal. On Instagram, related hashtags have around 2.02 million posts, with many people sharing the time and photos they spend out in nature.
Bringing along favorite items or goods related to someone or something one supports ("oshi") and photographing them together has also drawn attention as a way to enjoy "oshi-katsu" (fan activities).
An "Oshare Picnic" Set in Open Nature
Against this backdrop, Hakuba Iwatake Mountain Resort, which has offered a range of content for enjoying nature through the four seasons, has prepared the summer-only "Hakuba Morikaze Picnic" plan at its 1,289-meter summit area overlooking the Northern Alps, proposing a new way to spend time there: not just taking in the scenery, but spending time slowly in nature.
The plan includes picnic items such as a small tipi tent, picnic rug, low table, and chairs. The basket also comes with ingredients for building an original sandwich. Hakuba pork roast pork, colorful highland vegetables from Shinshu, and Hakuba blueberry jam can be freely combined to create a personal sandwich. Visitors can also try brewing their own drip coffee, an experience suited to the outdoors.
The plan uses a wooden deck within the beech forest at the summit, where the shade keeps things comfortably cool even in summer.
In the rich natural surroundings of the summit area, visitors can enjoy a picnic with friends, take photos, or bring along favorite "oshi" items for fan activities — a picnic experience only possible here.

Sandwich ingredients may change depending on availability. The plan is canceled in case of rain; if rain is forecast, notice of cancellation will be given after 4:00 PM the day before.
