Highland Resort Hotel & Spa in Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi Prefecture, will open two "Sumikkogurashi Rooms" (すみっコぐらしルーム) on Saturday, November 28, 2026. They are Japan's first permanent character rooms themed on Sumikkogurashi, letting guests spend their stay surrounded by the world of the characters. Reservations open on Wednesday, October 28 at 12:00 PM.
The rooms are possible because the hotel is the official hotel of Fuji-Q Highland and sits next to "San-X Paradise", an area that opened inside the park in August 2026. After a day at San-X Paradise, guests can keep enjoying the gentle, calming world of Sumikkogurashi at the hotel, with photo opportunities and in-room features surrounded by the Sumikko characters.
There are two room types: "The Sleepover Room with the Sumikko" and "The Tapioca Hunt Room with the Sumikko."
Room 1: The Sleepover Room with the Sumikko
Called "Sumikko-tachi to Issho ni Otomari-kai no Oheya" (すみっコたちといっしょにおとまり会のお部屋), this room feels like stepping into the world of Sumikkogurashi the moment the door opens.
It includes a space modeled on "Kissa Sumikko" (喫茶すみっコ), a cafe in the Sumikkogurashi world, along with a raised seating area and photo spots. Guests can move around the room and find a favorite "sumikko" (corner) of their own to relax in.
At check-in, the front desk hands over a "Bashotori" (ばしょとり) sign together with the room key. Once guests find a favorite corner, they place the sign there to claim the spot and spend a relaxing time with the Sumikko characters.

Guests use a mission sheet to look for "tapioca" (たぴおか) hidden in different places, such as a wall-wide bookshelf, drawers, and behind doors. By day, guests can explore the room, and at night they can sleep alongside the Sumikko characters, moving deeper into the story as time passes.

Room-Exclusive Amenities and Experiences
Original amenities
Guests staying in a Sumikkogurashi Room receive original amenities made exclusively for the rooms. They are items guests may want to bring along to San-X Paradise or Fuji-Q Highland as well as use during their stay.

Experience missions and a room-exclusive novelty
Each room has an experience mission that matches its concept.
In the Sleepover Room with the Sumikko, guests go around the "sumikko" corners scattered through the room, find a favorite spot, and claim it with the "Bashotori" sign.
In the Tapioca Hunt Room with the Sumikko, guests use the mission sheet to search for the tapioca hidden in the room. Guests who clear the mission receive a room-exclusive replica of the card key at check-out.

About San-X Paradise
San-X Paradise is an area built on the concept of "characters × healing × amusement park = a chemical reaction of 'kawaii.'" Characters greet visitors throughout the area, and guests can enjoy the world of the San-X Universe.
The area has two outdoor attractions: "Rilakkuma's Makumaku Sweets Buffet" (リラックマのまくまくスイーツバイキング), which gives the feel of a boat trip with Rilakkuma, and "Sumikkogurashi's Balloon Cupcake" (すみっコぐらしのバルーン・カップケーキ), an aerial stroll with Sumikkogurashi. It also has an indoor photo studio where visitors can meet Rilakkuma and Tokage, arcade games, and a shop and restaurant offering original goods and menu items available only in the area.

About Sumikkogurashi
Sumikkogurashi was born in 2012 with the keyword "Koko ga ochitsukundesu" (ここがおちつくんです), meaning "I feel calm right here." The characters and stories are more than cute, with a slightly negative, surreal side that has won a wide range of fans. Many people in Japan share the feeling that corner seats fill up first on a train, and that at a cafe they want to secure a corner seat if they can, and the Sumikko characters embody that feeling.
