Hoshinoya Okinawa to Offer Summer Night Pool Experience with Cocktails and Ryukyuan Classical Music

Hoshinoya Okinawa, a coastal resort in Yomitan Village set against the backdrop of Okinawa's Gusuku fortress culture, will be running a special program called "Yoi-Suzumi Night Pool" from May 15 to August 31, 2026. The experience invites hotel guests to cool down in the infinity pool after sundown, accompanied by a rotating selection of cocktails tied to each part of the evening and live Ryukyuan classical music under the stars.

Unlike much of the Japanese mainland, where summer heat can be relentless, Okinawa tends to see more moderate peak temperatures on many days, allowing guests to enjoy refreshing ocean breezes as the evening sets in. The program is split into three distinct time periods, each offering a different mood and drinks menu.

From 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, guests can sip champagne cocktails as the sun sinks into the ocean, casting the water surface in deep shades of crimson and amber. The cocktails pair frozen tropical fruits with biscuits de champagne made with Okinawan ingredients. The infinity pool mirrors the constantly changing colors of the sky, making it a visually striking experience from every angle.

Spoon Cocktails as the Pool Lights Come On

The poolside as night begins

From 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM, a "spoon cocktail" takes the spotlight — a dessert-like creation meant to be savored spoonful by spoonful as the first stars appear. One version combines locally brewed Okinawan beer with the rich sweetness of ripe mango. Another features awamori (an Okinawan distilled spirit) set as a coffee jelly, served alongside jimami (peanut) ice cream for a mellow, grown-up flavor combination. The pool lights gradually illuminate the water as the evening deepens, and the sound of the waves drifts in from the nearby shore.

Late Night with Ryukyuan Music and Local Spirits

From 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM (last order), the focus shifts to Okinawan spirits — aged awamori and whisky produced by local Okinawan distilleries. Each spirit opens up slowly with time, offering layered aromas and flavors suited to a relaxed, unhurried pace. During this slot, a live Ryukyuan classical music performance called "Natsu no Yo no Kana" is held from 9:30 PM to 9:50 PM, with the gentle, resonant sound of the sanshin carried on the night air. The performance draws from the Okinawan tradition of spending quiet summer nights in the company of music and slowly sipped spirits.
