About the Ehoumaki

Hotel's original ehoumaki

Ehoumaki is traditionally made with seven ingredients, derived from the Seven Lucky Gods (Shichifukujin), considered auspicious. Rolling seven ingredients symbolizes "rolling in good fortune," while eating it represents "taking in happiness." The hotel's ehoumaki features shirasu caught in Osaka Prefecture waters and spinach grown hydroponically in Konohana Ward.

By incorporating local ingredients, the hotel aims to give guests from both Japan and abroad an authentic taste of Osaka's food culture and the traditional Japanese event of Setsubun. The custom of eating ehoumaki while facing the auspicious direction (south-southeast this year) can be enjoyed as a unique experience tied to the local character of Konohana Ward.

This initiative is part of Orix Hotel Management Co., Ltd.'s "Regional Co-creation" efforts. The hotel aims to become a hub for promoting regional attractions while cherishing connections with local culture, industry, and people. Hotel Universal Port will continue to develop events that allow guests to experience seasonal and cultural elements through regional collaboration.
