Period Drama Costume and Japanese Traditional Dress Experience at Iwayado Park's Fukusuke in Seto, Aichi, From November 14

Nikka Park Iwayado Fukusuke (Nikka Park 岩屋堂 福助), located inside Iwayado Park in Seto, Aichi, will hold a limited-time "Period Drama Costume and Japanese Traditional Dress Experience" (時代劇扮装・和装体験) from Saturday, November 14 to Monday, November 23 (national holiday), 2026, during the Iwayado Autumn Leaves Festival (岩屋堂紅葉まつり).

The program is a collaboration with Goryo Ichiza (御陵一座), a troupe based in Seto, and offers dressing up and photo sessions using period drama costumes and props.

The venue, Fukusuke, is a ryokan founded in 1954 (Showa 29) with more than 70 years of history. The long-unused building is being revived as part of a "ryokan revitalization project" run by Nikka Home Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Nagoya, Aichi). Rather than simply renovating the building, the project aims to turn it into a new hub for tourism and exchange by drawing on the area's nature, culture and connections between people.

Against the backdrop of Iwayado Park in autumn color, the red bridge "紅橋" right in front of the building, and the interior of the long-established ryokan, visitors can become the hero of a period drama.

Period Drama Photos Among the Autumn Leaves of Iwayado

Iwayado Park in Seto, Aichi, is a scenic spot where visitors can enjoy nature through the seasons. It is especially known for its autumn leaves and draws many visitors every year. During the Autumn Leaves Festival, the park is also lit up, creating a scene that looks different from daytime.

The appeal of this program goes beyond simply wearing a costume. Right in front of Fukusuke is the red bridge "紅橋", one of the representative photo spots in Iwayado Park. Photos taken in period drama costumes or Japanese traditional dress with the red bridge surrounded by autumn leaves in the background can look like a scene from a film or TV drama.

Photos are not limited to outdoors. The interior of Fukusuke, which retains traces of the Showa era, and other atmospheric spaces typical of a ryokan will also be used as photo spots.

  • Outdoor photos against the autumn leaves and the red bridge "紅橋"
  • Indoor photos that make use of the retro Showa-era ryokan atmosphere
  • Period drama-style poses with Japanese paper umbrellas and props
  • Commemorative photos wearing an uchikake (打掛)

It is a photo experience unique to Iwayado that brings together nature, a historic building and Japanese traditional dress culture.

Collaboration With the Local Troupe Goryo Ichiza

Goryo Ichiza

This program was realized through a collaboration with Goryo Ichiza, which is based in Seto.

Goryo Ichiza, which knows the world of period dramas well, is in charge of preparing the costumes and props, dressing, the costume experience and photography support.

Not only adults but also children can easily become period drama characters.

In the period drama costume experience, visitors dress in costumes they rarely have a chance to wear and hold props, enjoying a time that feels different from ordinary sightseeing.

Japanese traditional dress and children's Japanese traditional dress experiences are also available, so parents and children, families and friends can take part together.

Letting visitors experience the skills and culture of local people is also an important purpose of the program.

Ryokan Revitalization Project "Kutsurogidokoro Fukusuke" (くつろぎ処福助)

At Fukusuke, the project values sharing not only the finished facility but also the very process of an old ryokan gradually being reborn. By publishing renovation progress, new service launches and staff challenges in real time, the project is building a new community hub with the support of many people.

The latest updates are posted on the official Iwayado Fukusuke Instagram. Renovation work is shown on the YouTube channel ニッカちゃんねる, which shares the renovation process and the real challenges of building the business.

The project began with renovation work centered on Nikka Home employees, with the aim of creating "a place that keeps the atmosphere of a traditional ryokan while being enjoyable for a new generation." Episode 1 of the channel, 【第01話】昭和29年創業の老舗旅館を再生します。福助プロジェクト始動!, introduces the story from the encounter with Fukusuke, a long-established ryokan founded in Showa 29, to the start of the revitalization project. Future videos will show the renovation by Nikka Home employees, the planning and production of new content, the behind-the-scenes preparations until opening, and the process of building the facility through trial and error.

The project is working to turn Fukusuke into a new tourist spot built around the themes of "play, eat and relax," and the challenge is also shown in the videos.
