Welcoming Good Fortune with Eho-maki

This Year's Lucky Direction is "South-Southeast"

The lucky direction for Setsubun on February 3, 2026 is "south-southeast," or more precisely "south-southeast slightly south."

The Toshitoku-jin (deity of fortune) who governs the year's blessings resides in the lucky direction. By facing that direction while eating, people pray for a year of good health and business prosperity.

Other traditional rules include eating in silence to keep fortune from escaping through the mouth, and eating the entire roll without cutting it to avoid severing connections. While various rules are mentioned, the most important thing is to face the Toshitoku-jin deity with your wishes and enjoy Kakujo Gyorui's delicious Eho-maki to welcome good fortune.

The Basic "Kakujo Eho-maki" Contains 7 Types of Ingredients

Why "7 types"? There's a good reason.

The Seven Gods of Fortune have been revered in Japan since ancient times, believed to bring various blessings including business prosperity, good health, and longevity. By incorporating "7 types" of ingredients inspired by these seven deities and eating them, the idea is to take in good fortune.

Traditional "gourd strips" symbolize longevity and matchmaking, while egg omelet represents wealth with its golden color. Cucumber brings "nine benefits," and pink fish flakes symbolize auspiciousness with their color.

Kakujo Gyorui's Eho-maki lineup honors these basics to "ward off misfortune and welcome good luck" while showcasing the fresh fish specialty store's signature seafood in the Seafood Eho-maki and Takumi Eho-maki.

Aiming to be "Japan's Number One Fish Store"

We love fish. We love our customers.

For everyone's happiness, we "judge by right and wrong rather than profit and loss," and our lively workplaces thrive on individual ingenuity.

Our goal of being number one in Japan doesn't refer to sales figures or store count, but rather being number one in product quality and store quality.

This means being number one in the quality of employees working at our stores, the quality of products we handle, and the quality of company management - in other words, becoming the fish store that helps customers the most in Japan.

Kakujo Gyorui will continue to expand its store network to deliver delicious fish to more customers' dining tables.

Kakujo Gyorui operates across the Kanto-Koshinetsu region, procuring fresh seafood daily from Teradomari Port in Niigata, Toyosu Market, and fishing ports throughout Japan.
