Kunozan Toshogu Shrine, a National Treasure in Suruga-ku, Shizuoka City, is opening its grounds after dark for a special night viewing event called "IRODORI," starting September 19. The event lights up an area of the shrine normally closed to visitors at night with an elegant, origami-inspired illumination created by artist YouRuMaru. New this year, a projection of Baku, a sacred beast symbolizing Tokugawa Ieyasu's wish for peace, joins the display, bringing together history and contemporary art for a special evening. Attendance is limited to 800 people per day.
