Mexican goods brand Letra is adding a new black colorway to its handwoven mercado bag lineup, available exclusively through the brand's WEB SHOP from July 3, 2026 (Friday) at 6:00 PM. Billed as "an everyday black for grown-ups," the versatile shade blends easily into any outfit and suits any occasion, and the new lineup comes in three sizes so shoppers can pick the one that best fits their lifestyle.
Three Sizes to Match Any Scene
This limited lineup includes three sizes, each developed with an eye toward storage capacity and ease of carrying. The bags keep the mercado bag's signature qualities — resistant to water and stains, and easy to clean — while leaning into a design that fits more naturally into everyday life.
SHORT XS (For Light Outings)

Compact yet practical, this size lets you carry your essentials without any bulk.

A lace-like chain weave pattern adds a distinctive touch.
Storage: Fits a long wallet, smartphone, pouch, and other essentials for daily outings.
Highlights: Perfect for lunches or a stroll on lighter days — a model that balances an easy, effortless feel with elegance.
SHORT S (Fits A4 Documents, Ideal for Commuting)

From work to weekends, this size covers a wide range of scenes. Its wide, rectangular silhouette pairs well with both dresses and pants for a balanced look.

Storage: Neatly holds an A4-size document, a parasol, a 500ml bottle, a pouch, a smartphone, a long wallet, and more.
Highlights: An ideal size that sits comfortably on your lap even on the train, making it a stress-free companion for commuting.
SHORT XS LONG HANDLE (New — Shoulder-Style)

Added to the lineup this season in response to customer requests, this model keeps the same compact size as the SHORT XS while extending the handle so it can be worn over the shoulder.

The LINK design's color and pattern make it a piece that can be worn year-round.
Letra's mercado bags are hand-woven one by one from plastic cord by artisans in Mexico.

Durable and quick-drying even after getting wet, the bags are easy to carry on rainy days, and their stain resistance makes them a practical yet beautiful choice for daily use.
Don't miss this WEB SHOP quantity-limited release of the mercado bag.

About Letra

Letra is a Mexican goods brand launched in 2014, with mercado bags as its main product. A buyer at the company first visited Mexico in the late 2000s, drawn in by the energy of its people and the vivid colors of its streets, and discovered mercado bags there. Seeing the potential in these lightweight, durable bags, the company began importing and selling them in Japan.
Since 2014, Letra has steadily grown awareness of mercado bags in Japan, with purchasing volumes rising from about 1,200 units in 2015 to around 35,000 units in 2024.
Customers get to enjoy mercado bags, while the brand contributes over the long term to preserving Mexico's traditional craft techniques, supporting vocational training in correctional facilities, and stabilizing the livelihoods of mercado bag artisans — all part of what Letra calls its Social Good mission.

The brand's 2026 spring/summer season theme is "TIMELESS," reflecting a commitment to craftsmanship that endures across generations and to building a sustainable production model.
