Maxell Aqua Park Shinagawa Hosts "Hanabi Aquarium by NAKED" Summer 2026 Event

Maxell Aqua Park Shinagawa, located inside Shinagawa Prince Hotel in Takanawa, Minato, Tokyo, will host a summer seasonal event called "Hanabi Aquarium by NAKED" from Saturday, July 4 through Sunday, September 6, 2026. The event features digital fireworks displays integrated with marine life exhibitions, creating what the aquarium describes as a "cool summer experience" inside an air-conditioned indoor facility. Scorching summer heat is forecast to continue this year, making the indoor aquarium an appealing destination for both daytime and evening visitors.

1. A Fantastical Underwater Space Filled with Fireworks

Entrance: "Umino Sando"

Entrance Umino Sando

Passing through the entrance gate, visitors enter a fantastical space centered on a tank displaying fish dressed in fireworks colors — including the vivid purple クレナイニセスズメ and the yellow-bodied コガネキュウセン. Stone-carved stairways and the soft glow of lanterns suggest a path descending into an underwater world. An interactive installation lets guests trigger fireworks by touching the wall, drawing visitors into the heart of the underwater fireworks festival.

Immersive Area: "Kaichu Hanabi"

Kaichu Hanabi immersive area

This exhibition area uses 22 projectors in a single zone to produce dynamic visuals across approximately 3.7-meter walls and the floor. The centrepiece is a "symbolic tank" in the middle of the room where リーフスティングレイ (reef stingrays) — whose spotted patterns resemble fireworks — swim through an immersive undersea world. Eleven surrounding tanks display fish that evoke the spectacle of large blooming fireworks, including ハナミノカサゴ (lionfish) and オーネイトカウフィッシュ. A fireworks "show time" takes place approximately once every three minutes.

Atrium Area: "Umiiro Kairo"

Following the immersive zone, visitors move through a corridor that gradually transitions from deep ocean to shallow shoreline environments. Walls project changing seascape visuals as depth decreases, with fantastical fireworks rising silently from coral reefs. Tanks along the way display セミエビ (slipper lobster) in a deep-sea setting and ミナミトビハゼ (mudskippers) near a wave-lapped shoreline.

Coral Cafe Bar: "Utage Hanabi"

Utage Hanabi cafe bar

A vibrant cafe bar space lined with glowing coral tanks, where colorful digital fireworks burst above the tanks and along the bar counter. Four limited-edition menu items are available during "Hanabi Aquarium," including a drink loaded with pineapple pieces, a lemon squash with colorful agar cubes evoking fireworks, and blueberry-based desserts. All purchased items can be carried around the aquarium to enjoy alongside favorite fireworks scenes.

Jellyfish Ramble

Jellyfish Ramble

A large jellyfish gallery spanning approximately 9 meters wide and 35 meters deep, featuring seven cylindrical tanks and a central symbolic tank. Transparent ギヤマンクラゲ (crystal jellyfish) and other jellyfish drift through the space. A roughly 5-minute summer lighting and sound program runs here, cycling through three scenes: a lively festival atmosphere, a serene fireworks night, and the gentle sound of wind chimes.

2. Dolphin Performances: Day and Night

Dolphin Performance Day Version: "Summer FUN Research"

Dolphin Performance Day Version

The daytime dolphin performance invites guests to join trainers and dolphins in creating summer memories. LED screens feature the dolphins as trainers share interesting facts about their ecology. After a brief introduction to dolphin behavior, trainers and dolphins deliver coordinated underwater performances reminiscent of playing at the water's edge. The program concludes with dynamic jumps and splashing under lively summer music. Guest participation — including clapping and dancing — is part of the experience.

Performance times (approximately 15 minutes per session): please check the official website for the schedule.

Dolphin Performance Night Version: "瑠璃花火 -Digital Fireworks-"

Dolphin Performance Night Version

An immersive nighttime program set in a darkened venue with no MC narration. The show uses cutting-edge technology — including fountains, water curtains, moving lights, underwater illumination, projection mapping, LED screens, and 12.1-channel surround sound — to deliver a fully non-verbal spectacle. Digital fireworks envelop the 360-degree seating as dolphins leap dynamically to Japanese instrument music. The mid-section features graceful underwater dances, and the finale brings an all-dolphin simultaneous jump.

Performance times (approximately 15 minutes per session): please check the official website for the schedule.

Note: Performances will not be held on Saturday, August 22 and Sunday, August 23, due to shortened operating hours.

3. Two Ticket Plans for Different Occasions

Dolphin Performance Reserve Plan

A limited-capacity plan combining an admission ticket with a guaranteed reserved seat for one daytime dolphin performance, allowing guests to watch without waiting even on busy days. Sales begin Thursday, June 25, 2026 on the aquarium's official website.

After 5 Ticket

A discounted ticket for entry from 5:00 PM on weekdays. The aquarium shifts to a more mysterious evening atmosphere at night, and visitors may observe nocturnal animal behaviors. The ticket covers "Hanabi Aquarium," permanent exhibitions, and dolphin performances throughout the evening. Sales begin Thursday, June 25, 2026 on the aquarium's official website.

Sea Lion Friendly Time: Bon Odori Version

Sea lion friendly time

During the "Hanabi Aquarium" period, the sea lion "Friendly Time" runs in a special summer format. Keepers splash water as the sea lion enters, cooling the venue before the sea lion shows off its physical abilities and dances to bon odori music, accompanied by guest hand clapping. The program runs for approximately 10 minutes per session; please check the official website for times.
