Tokyo Metropolitan Meiji Park Hosts Its First Art Festival "MEIJI PARK ART WEEK" from November 1 with Tent Theater and Outdoor Art

Tokyo Metropolitan Meiji Park will hold its first art festival, "MEIJI PARK ART WEEK," for ten days from November 1 (Sunday) to November 10 (Tuesday), 2026. The festival is organized by Tokyo Legacy Parks Co., Ltd., which manages and operates the park.

Set in the park as autumn deepens, the festival features two major programs: theater (performing arts) and a contemporary art exhibition.

At Michi Hiroba, a special "Aka (red) Tent" will appear for a staging of Shitaya Mannenchō Monogatari, a masterpiece play by Juro Kara (唐十郎). The production is the debut performance of a theater company launched by his son, actor and film director Gitan Otsuru (大鶴義丹). Dai Watanabe and Kaname Ouki (凰稀かなめ) star.

At Kibō no Hiroba, artist はくいきしろい, who has drawn attention for works made with translucent resin ink, presents the solo exhibition "Northern Lights." The light-transmitting works overlap with the scenery of the park, creating a viewing experience that is possible only outdoors.

Meiji Park, where abundant greenery meets the urban space of central Tokyo, is the setting for both programs.

The production is directed by Kara's eldest son, Gitan Otsuru. At Kibō no Hiroba, artist はくいきしろい, who has gained popularity for colorful works made with resin ink, presents the solo exhibition "Northern Lights." The light-transmitting works overlap with the park's trees, the sky and the people passing by, showing an expression unique to an outdoor space. Visitors can look closely at the layers and texture of the ink, or step back and view the works together with the landscape, changing their distance from the pieces as they like.

During the exhibition period, the works can be viewed free of charge at any time, 24 hours a day. Weight-based sales, where a work is cut and sold by weight, as well as sales of stickers and art chairs, will also be offered.

About the Artist

はくいきしろい began creating work in 2017 and started exhibiting in 2018. Drawing inspiration from information found on the internet, the artist translates it through their own body into works with color and texture. They create sticker works using resin ink and regard the act of viewers cutting out a piece and sticking it onto something familiar as part of the work. The artist also extends works into spaces, including a window display at Matsuzakaya Nagoya and Christmas visuals and decorations at Laforet Harajuku. In September 2026, the artist took part in "TOKYO ISSUE" at Isetan Shinjuku.
