The "Autumn Rose Festa" takes place at Expo'70 Commemorative Park from Saturday, October 24 to Monday, November 23, 2026 (a national holiday), except on Saturday, October 31 and Sunday, November 1.
In the Rose Garden of Peace in the Natural and Cultural Garden, visitors can see about 2,400 rose plants of roughly 250 varieties. They include legacy roses presented in hopes of peace by nine countries around the world, Japan among them, at the time of the 1970 Japan World Exposition (Osaka Expo), as well as the latest richly fragrant varieties.
Autumn roses open slowly over time as temperatures drop, so their colors tend to be deeper and more vivid and their fragrance richer. The Fragrance Area, which gathers varieties with distinctive scents, offers concentrated, rich aromas.
During the festival, a variety of events will be held, including a marching parade by the Kyoto Tachibana Senior High School Band, a performance by the Kyoto Tachibana Junior High School Band, a guided tour of the rose garden led by a rose sommelier, and sales of rose seedlings and flower seedlings. "Pan Tengoku," a bread festival popular in Kansai, will also be held at Expo'70 Commemorative Park for the first time.
