Baby Animal News — Manx Loaghtan Lambs and Triplet Goats Born at Mother Farm

Manx Loaghtan Baby Lambs

The Manx Loaghtan is a breed of sheep originating from the British Isles and is registered as an endangered species. It is recognizable by its brown wool and distinctive horns — typically growing two to four, and sometimes as many as six. The name "Loaghtan" comes from the Viking word meaning "small and lovely brown one."

Often called the "ancestor of sheep," the breed is thought to be one of the closest living relatives of primitive sheep, having retained much of its original form since ancient times. Lambs are born entirely black but gradually turn brown as they grow.

Two Manx Loaghtan lambs have been born at Mother Farm — both males — with their horns already beginning to emerge. They are currently viewable on the Mother Farm Tour DX.

Viewing may not be available on some days depending on the animals' health conditions.

Triplet Baby Goats

Triplet baby goats at Mother Farm

Three baby goats joined the Mother Farm Tour DX on March 29. Named Chu (eldest daughter), Rip (second daughter), and Pup (youngest son) — together the trio forms the "Tulip" siblings, a fitting name for a spring arrival.

The three are growing up drinking plenty of milk every day. A little on the mischievous side, they sometimes wander off on their own when staff aren't looking. The baby goats can be spotted from the tractor train during the Mother Farm Tour DX.

Viewing may not be available on some days depending on the animals' health conditions.
