MUJI (Ryohin Keikaku Co., Ltd.) is launching a new sofa called the "Relaxation-Focused Wooden Armless Sofa" (くつろぎを考えた木製アームレスソファ) at MUJI stores nationwide and on its online store from Wednesday, May 27.
As urban housing in Japan continues to trend toward smaller footprints, furniture that balances space efficiency with comfort has become increasingly sought after. MUJI's existing "Spacious Armless Sofa" — popular for maximizing seating area within a compact width by removing arms — has inspired an updated design that takes integration with living spaces a step further.
The new sofa incorporates the same wood spring structure used in MUJI's popular wooden bed frames. Arched wooden slats (a technique known as a wood spring) give the frame itself a flexible, spring-like cushioning quality. A pocket coil is also embedded in the seat cushion, providing resilience that holds up well over extended periods of sitting or lying down.

Wood Spring Construction for a Comfortable Seat
By combining the wood spring frame with a pocket coil seat cushion, the sofa delivers a stable, comfortable feel whether sitting upright or stretching out to rest. The pocket coil construction resists flattening over time, maintaining its feel through long-term use.

Armless Design That Blends Into the Room
Compared to the previous model, cushion thickness and frame proportions have been refined to give the sofa a lower, less imposing silhouette. The armless design allows the full seat width to be used for sitting, creating a generous feel even in a compact space. Three colors are available — Greige, Brown, and Gray — chosen to coordinate easily with a range of interior styles.

Interchangeable Legs for Adjustable Height
The legs share a common specification with MUJI's mattress-with-legs and wooden bed frames, and come in both wood and slim steel options. Heights of 12 cm and 20 cm are available, allowing users to choose based on their body type or how easy they want sit-down and stand-up movement to be.

Chaise and Ottoman Options Also Available
The series also includes a chaise-style model and an ottoman. The chaise can be combined with the standard sofa to create a configuration for stretching out legs, and the ottoman can also be used independently as a stool — offering flexible arrangements to suit different lifestyles and spaces.
