Nicolai Bergmann Unveils Flower Installation at ASAMA KUZANBO to Celebrate 5th Anniversary

ASAMA KUZANBO, a private villa resort in Kitakaruizawa, Gunma Prefecture, is celebrating its 5th anniversary on April 26, 2026 (Sunday). To mark the occasion, the resort has collaborated with internationally recognized flower artist Nicolai Bergmann on a special flower design project. The anniversary year's concept has been announced as "Where sky, mountain, and five senses breathe at Asama, and beyond."

For the project, Nicolai Bergmann visited the resort in person, experiencing the atmosphere of the spaces and the surrounding natural environment firsthand. He created flower installations across multiple areas of the property, including guest rooms, the lounge, and the restaurant. The result is a series of spatial arrangements unique to ASAMA KUZANBO, designed to harmonize with the majestic natural scenery of Mount Asama.

Flower Design Inspired by the Natural Landscape

For the decorations, purple was selected as the base color to complement the resort's predominantly monochromatic interior design. The arrangements combine striking branches, warm wooden vessels, and Arita ware pieces that Nicolai Bergmann designed himself. This combination pursues a harmony between the flowers, the vessels, and the space as a whole, with designs that integrate seamlessly with the natural environment surrounding Mount Asama.

Meticulous Handcraft Process

Each piece is brought to life through careful handwork: individual hydrangea blossoms are wired one by one, leaves are coiled into loops and placed with tweezers, and other fine details are meticulously attended to. This level of craftsmanship gives the preserved flowers the vitality of fresh blooms. Approximately 80% of the production process is carried out as preparatory work in the Tokyo studio, with the final design completed on-site to suit each individual space.

Limited-Edition Flower Box Featuring Mount Asama's Silhouette

A special flower box was also created for the 5th anniversary. The sides of the box feature a design inspired by the silhouette of Mount Asama, expressing the connection to nature not only through the flowers themselves but through the packaging as a whole. The piece incorporates approximately 20 types of flowers and foliage, and the design prioritizes a rounded form that looks beautiful from any angle.

The installations use preserved flowers — fresh flowers that have been specially processed. When kept away from light and dust and properly maintained, preserved flowers can retain their beauty for several years, and in some cases more than a decade. Because they can be displayed in places where fresh flowers are impractical, such as bookshelves and bathrooms, they open up new possibilities for interior design. The designs created within the tranquil air of ASAMA KUZANBO serve as installations that linger in the memory alongside the experience of the stay.
