Pingu Exhibition Coming to Tokyo's New YURAKUCHO MUSEUM in Summer 2026

A new exhibition dedicated to Pingu, the beloved stop-motion animated penguin, is heading to Tokyo in the summer of 2026. "Not Just Cute!? Pingu Exhibition" will be held at YURAKUCHO MUSEUM — a new exhibition space launching inside Tokyo International Forum — from July 10 (Friday) to September 6 (Sunday), 2026.

About Pingu

Pingu is a stop-motion animation created by Swiss filmmaker Otmar Gutmann. The test film that became the prototype for the series was made in 1980, and 2025 marks the 45th anniversary of that milestone. Since the TV series began broadcasting in 1990, it has aired in over 155 countries and territories worldwide, and the warm, humorous stories of the young penguin Pingu and his friends have been loved by audiences of all ages around the globe.

What to Expect at the Exhibition

Taking an "amusement park" as its concept, the exhibition showcases valuable clay models actually used in the original animation production alongside a range of other materials. Visitors can discover new sides of Pingu through interactive elements highlighting the character's rich facial expressions, unique movements, and the surprisingly communicative "Pinguish" language. Photo spots let visitors step into Pingu's world, and hands-on activities invite a more physical way of engaging with the show's universe.
