Pompompurin is turning 30, and Sanrio is celebrating with a nostalgic new goods series that revives the character's very first merchandise line. The "Those Days Pompompurin Design Series" goes on sale nationwide on August 27, 2026, at Sanrio's directly operated stores, Sanrio corners in department stores, the Sanrio Online Shop, and other retailers across Japan.
The 16-item lineup recreates the design and boa texture of the original 1996 goods series, including plush toys and mascot holders, along with items featuring Pompompurin's friend Muffin, plus bags, pouches, and towels decorated with plush-style photos for everyday use. The series leans into a retro look that evokes Pompompurin's debut era.
To mark the milestone, Sanrio is also holding a "Pompompurin 30th Anniversary Shop" event at 37 Sanrio Shops nationwide from August 27 (Thu) through September 13 (Sun). The event features limited-edition merchandise, special anniversary photo spots, and limited novelty giveaways, while Sanrio Shops across the country will display panels featuring Pompompurin's designs through the years along with their own novelty giveaways.
The "Those Days" Series Revives Pompompurin's Debut-Era Plush Charm
The "Those Days Pompompurin Design Series" is a special 30th-anniversary lineup that lets fans enjoy Pompompurin's early days across a range of items.
When Pompompurin debuted in 1996, his first merchandise series, "Boku, Purin," introduced soft boa plush toys and palm-sized mascot keychains that became beloved symbols of his debut era. Thirty years later, this series brings fans back to the origins of Pompompurin merchandise.
This original 1996 series is no longer sold.

Chibittomo-style secret keyholders and nostalgic designs, exclusive to select stores
Starting August 27, the "Pompompurin Anniversary Shop Limited Series" goes on sale exclusively at the 37 participating Sanrio Shops and the Sanrio Online Shop. The lineup includes two "Secret Keyholder" designs from the popular Chibittomo series — one featuring Pompompurin dressed as his Team Purin friends, and another featuring other Sanrio characters dressed as Pompompurin (each 1 item / 8 varieties, ¥946 each) — along with a "Secret Drawstring Pouch & Mini Tote Bag" featuring nostalgic designs (1 item / 8 varieties, ¥748 each) and a "Sticker Set" (¥693). All prices include tax; the contents of secret items cannot be chosen.
Special photo spots at every location
The 37 participating Sanrio Shops will each set up special 30th-anniversary photo spots, including large huggable plush displays. In-store decorations vary by location.
Free novelty for shoppers at the 37 stores and online
Starting August 27, customers who spend ¥4,400 (tax included) or more at the 37 participating Sanrio Shops or the Sanrio Online Shop will receive a free "Pompompurin Pukkuri Memo" — a 60-sheet memo pad with a plump, squishy-feeling Pompompurin cover. Limited to one per customer, while supplies last.
Nationwide Sanrio Shops Celebrate the 30th Anniversary In-Store
Sanrio Shops across the country will display in-store panels featuring Pompompurin's designs through the years, letting shoppers look back on his history while they browse. Starting August 27, customers who spend ¥2,200 (tax included) or more at Sanrio's directly operated stores, department store Sanrio corners, and the Sanrio Online Shop nationwide will receive a free "Pompompurin Uchiwa" fan, while supplies last. Some stores will not have the in-store panels.
