The "FAST-RB NITRO™ ELITE 2 LACED," a running shoe developed by PUMA with the aim of breaking the conventions of running shoes, goes on sale in Japan on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, limited to 100 pairs.
The "RB" in "FAST-RB" stands for "Rule Breaking." The model takes on the limits of conventional running shoe design and puts PUMA's innovative technologies into shape. It is described as a "concept car" of the running industry, with a unique structure that is not bound by existing norms. Developed at PUMA's research and development facility, the NITRO™ LAB, it combines the high-rebound foam "NITROFOAM™ ELITE" with the "PWRPLATE," made of two joined carbon fiber plates, to deliver dynamic propulsion and high energy return.
In PUMA's internal tests, the shoe recorded the highest "running economy," a measure of energy efficiency while running, in the company's road running shoe lineup. Note that the model does not comply with competition rules and is not permitted for use in official races.
PWRPLATE: Two Carbon Plates for Dynamic Propulsion
The defining feature of this model is its original design, in which two carbon fiber plates are joined to form a visible springboard structure. The plates use a cantilever (one-sided support) structure that flexes in step with the motion from landing to push-off and then returns to its original shape, supporting a powerful push-off and smooth shifting of the center of gravity.
NITROFOAM™ ELITE: Cushioning and Energy Return
To improve cushioning and energy return, PUMA has updated the structure of "NITROFOAM™ ELITE." A two-layer construction wraps a soft foam core in a firmer foam, balancing excellent cushioning with rebound. The overall shape of the shoe has also been refined in pursuit of a smoother ride with excellent responsiveness.
ULTRAWEAVE: Lightweight, Breathable and Snug-Fitting
The upper uses "ULTRAWEAVE," a material that is lightweight and breathable. It wraps the foot securely while making the shoe lighter than previous models, for a comfortable fit.
PUMAGRIP: Grip on a Variety of Surfaces
The outsole features "PUMAGRIP," which provides excellent grip on a variety of surfaces. While remaining lightweight, it grips the road surface and supports a dynamic push-off.
