The Godzilla x Malatang series channels the overwhelming presence of Godzilla into each bowl. Developed and produced at the Itadaki Malatang Shinjuku flagship store, the soups feature a combination of numbing spices and golden Japanese-style dashi broth, delivering what the brand describes as a "roaring spicy-numbing" experience. The full series covers seven monster varieties in total.

This bowl draws its name and concept from Radon, the "King of the Skies" monster known for releasing shockwaves during flight. The product also draws a parallel with radon hot springs, which are said to stimulate cells, build resilience, and improve circulation — making the bowl a fitting "post-bath meal" (sa-meshi) concept.

Soup and Noodle Craftsmanship

Japanese-style wa-sei malatang from Itadaki Malatang

The Soup

The broth is built on a double-soup base combining a refined chicken broth — made from domestically sourced chicken — and a fragrant Japanese-style dashi crafted from dried flying fish (ago) from Kagoshima. More than 30 varieties of freshly ground medicinal spices are blended in, producing the deep richness and layered flavor characteristic of Japanese-style medicinal cuisine (wa-sei yakuzen).

The Glass Noodles

The thick, chewy fresh glass noodles included are an original product developed specifically for "Ouchi de Maratan." They are crafted by Ebisu Harusame, a long-established glass noodle maker based in Nara Prefecture — historically the birthplace of glass noodles in Japan — with over half a century of production history. Made by hand and sun-dried using traditional methods passed down since the company's founding, the noodles achieve a texture the brand describes as one-of-a-kind.

Health Attributes

Ishoku-dogen (food as medicine) concept at Itadaki Malatang

Malatang (麻辣湯) is a Chinese-origin soup dish rich in medicinal spices, often cited as a representative dish of the "ishoku-dogen" philosophy — the idea that food and medicine share the same roots, and that daily eating habits contribute to health maintenance.

The glass noodles are starch-based and gluten-free, making them suitable for those with gluten sensitivities. The dish is also designed to incorporate leftover vegetables or proteins from the refrigerator, helping reduce food waste while boosting nutritional value.

Domestic ingredients used include free-range chicken, yuzu from Tokushima Prefecture, flying fish (ago) from Kagoshima Prefecture, and hatcho miso from Aichi Prefecture. The glass noodles are unbleached and produced in Nara Prefecture.
