Seiko House Hall in Ginza will host "Rimako Horikawa Painting Exhibition — Footprints of Time," the painter and picture book author's 8th solo exhibition at Wako and her first there in three years, running from April 23 (Thursday) to May 6 (Wednesday), 2026.
The theme of the exhibition is "Footprints of Time." On display are approximately 60 works evoking a sense of nostalgic familiarity, using motifs such as animals, children, and clocks, alongside ceramics and precious original picture book illustrations.
Among the highlights are new works exploring "light and shadow" — a fresh direction for the artist — where facial expressions shift as the viewer's gaze moves, speaking to each visitor in a uniquely personal way.
A Message for "Rimako Horikawa Painting Exhibition — Footprints of Time"
I find myself thinking more and more about what it means to be alive right now.
To live is to leave "footprints" everywhere — and to weave small, personal stories, however modest they may be. Reflecting on how fortunate that is, I wanted to paint those small, personal stories into pictures.
I have also long enjoyed depicting the interest of imagery and form. I feel that this enjoyment is, in its own way, a kind of inevitability for me.
