Wakatsuru Sake Brewing's Saburoumaru Distillery is releasing the latest entry in its Single Malt Saburoumaru series — Single Malt Whisky Saburoumaru VIII STRENGTH — in limited quantities starting May 21, 2026 (Thursday).
The ninth installment in a series that began with "Saburoumaru 0 THE FOOL" in 2020, it follows the previous release "Saburoumaru VII THE CHARIOT" (released November 2025).
About Single Malt Whisky Saburoumaru VIII STRENGTH
In 2022, Saburoumaru Distillery used super heavily peated Islay malt to distill this whisky. Islay peat has become increasingly difficult to obtain each year, and the distillery's persistence and trust-based relationships made this release possible.
A powerful smokiness enveloped in a soft sea breeze creates a rich flavor that draws the senses into greater depth.

Design
The label design is based on Tarot cards (composed of 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana cards), drawing specifically from the 9th Major Arcana card, "STRENGTH."

Continuing from previous releases in the series, local cut paper artist Yukie Kano (from Himi City, Toyama Prefecture) created the cut paper artwork for "STRENGTH," which is used in the label design.

A set consisting of one bottle each of the Single Malt "Saburoumaru VIII STRENGTH Standard Edition" and "Cask Strength" will be available through a member-exclusive lottery on Wakatsuru Sake Brewing's online shop "Watashi to, ALC."
