Limited-Edition Spring Japanese Sweets Ice Creams Now at 7-Eleven — Hojicha Macaron and Kinako Waffle Cone

Two new limited-edition ice creams inspired by Japanese sweets (wagashi) are arriving at 7-Eleven stores across Japan from February 24. The Seven Premium Macaron Ice Hojicha Latte and Seven Premium Waffle Cone Kinako Milk are being rolled out nationwide in limited quantities, timed to coincide with the early spring season.

The lineup pairs the popular macaron ice series with a hojicha (roasted green tea) flavor, and the rich waffle cone series with kinako (roasted soybean flour) — both classic Japanese ingredients that give the products a distinctly traditional character.

The macaron shells are made with hojicha tea leaves blended directly into the dough, giving them a warm, earthy appearance as well as flavor. A hojicha sauce is incorporated into the ice cream, balancing sweetness with a roasted note.

The hojicha latte ice cream itself delivers a lingering roasted aroma on the palate. The sauce is described as having a roasted quality without excessive bitterness, making it approachable for a wide range of tastes. Attention was paid to how the sauce is layered into the product, so both ice cream and sauce can be enjoyed in a balanced way throughout.

The waffle cone features a two-tone ice cream: a nutty kinako layer paired with a rich milk ice cream. Together they create a flavor reminiscent of a kinako latte. A drizzle of kuromitsu (black sugar syrup) is added for visual contrast and an extra layer of sweetness.

The kinako ice cream uses roasted soybean flour to bring out a distinctive nuttiness, and a touch of salt is used as a subtle flavoring agent to enhance both the sweetness and the overall kinako aroma. The rich milk ice cream contributes a creamy depth that rounds out the combination.

Both products are available while supplies last. Prices and availability may vary by store, and some locations may carry different product names or specifications.
