Canola Flowers in Full Bloom at Shichikokuyama, Machida — A Springtime Tradition

Near the northwestern part of Machida Yakushiike Park Shikisai no Mori, fields of canola flowers near the Shichikokuyama Farmers Center are approaching their peak bloom. The flowers are grown by the Shichikokuyama Fureai no Sato Association, a local farmers' group working to preserve agricultural landscapes in the area.

After visitors enjoy the flowers, the rapeseed ("natane") is harvested, and a rapeseed oil pressing demonstration and sale is held once a month at Furusato Nogu-kan (Hometown Agricultural Tools Museum). Sales of Shichikokuyama soba and buckwheat flour — made from unpolished buckwheat harvested last autumn — are also set to begin from April 1.

Bloom Period

Mid-to-late April

Note: Bloom timing may vary depending on weather conditions. For the latest updates, check the city's official website or contact Furusato Nogu-kan (TEL: 042-736-8380).
