Gunma Sake Liqueur Set "Shu Shu Shu Shu" Returns on October 1 in a Limited Run of 200 Sets

"Shu Shu Shu Shu", a sake liqueur set made entirely with ingredients from Gunma Prefecture, went on sale again on Thursday, October 1, 2026, limited to 200 sets. The set was planned and developed jointly by Open House Group Co., Ltd. and Kondo Shuzo Co., Ltd., a sake brewery in Midori, Gunma Prefecture.

The set was created to help people who don't usually drink sake become familiar with it, and to share the appeal of Gunma. It has been sold in limited quantities every year since it first appeared in 2024.

Each set contains four bottles: a sake made from rice grown in Midori, Gunma, and three liqueurs made by adding the flavors of Gunma-grown ume (plum), yuzu, and blueberry to that sake. The special bottle design forms a neat circle when the four bottles are placed side by side, and the set comes with an original paper bag. It has also been popular as a gift or a small present to bring along on a visit. Open House Group says it will continue its efforts to share the appeal of Gunma with more people.

About the Sake and the Three Liqueurs

Sake

Made with Gohyakumangoku rice grown in Midori, Gunma, and a prefectural yeast developed in Gunma, this is a sweet sake with a fragrant aroma. It was made to go well with fruit, and it is also gentle on the palate when drunk on its own. Recommended way to drink: straight.

Ume (plum)

A coarse-strained puree of Shirokaga plums, known for their tartness and good aroma, brings out the fruit's character. It has a thick texture, with tartness following the sweetness. Origin: Takasaki, Gunma. Recommended way to drink: on the rocks.

Yuzu

The refreshing aroma of yuzu spreads on the nose, and the bitterness has been left in to bring out the natural appeal of the fruit. Mixed with soda, the refreshing taste becomes even more pronounced. Origin: Shibukawa, Takasaki, and Annaka, Gunma. Recommended way to drink: with soda (liqueur to soda at 2:1).

Blueberry

Made with plenty of fruit, it tastes as if you were eating blueberries as they are. The flavor of sake can be felt within its bold sweetness. Origin: Midori, Gunma. Recommended way to drink: on the rocks.

Background

Open House Group is working on a redevelopment project for the former 国民宿舎サンレイク草木, a public lodge in Midori, Gunma that closed at the end of March 2023. Rather than simply restoring the lodge, the plan is to turn it into a new stay-type accommodation where guests can experience the appeal of the region. Open House Architect and トベアーキテクト are handling the design, and "YUHO Kusagi Lakeside Stay" is scheduled to open in spring 2027, run by Open House Hotels & Resorts, the company behind KÚON Hakone Gora.

Ahead of the opening, Open House Group proposed to Kondo Shuzo, a long-established local brewery, that they plan and develop a sake liqueur to promote the appeal of Midori. The two companies developed it together, and "Shu Shu Shu Shu" was born in 2024. It has been well received since its release, and for the most popular flavor, yuzu, a large bottle sold on its own is also planned (release date to be announced).
