Suntory is rolling out a new permanent addition to its popular -196 chuhai series. The "-196 Ruby Grapefruit" — previously available only as a limited release in February — will become a year-round product with a refreshed formula and updated packaging starting July 28, 2026.
About the -196 Brand
The -196 series has been a long-selling staple since its debut in 2005. It uses Suntory's proprietary "-196°C Manufacturing Method," which involves freezing fruit at -196°C to lock in flavor before creating the infused spirit. The "Fruit-Forward Chuhai" line within the series has built a following for its fresh, juicy character and clean finish.
Flavor and Packaging
The -196 Ruby Grapefruit uses a ruby grapefruit infusion made with the brand's -196°C process, then blended to deliver what Suntory describes as a "burst of fresh ruby grapefruit with a clean, refreshing finish."
The new can design features a light blue gradient background with a fruit illustration centered on the label, aiming to convey the drink's flavors at a glance.
