STATEMENT
There's a room in an apartment near the Aburamenkōsaten intersection on Meguro Street that serves as SDP's (Scha Dara Parr's) workspace, filled with records and equipment. It's been our creative hub for decades where we make music.
In the past, we could work and make noise late into the night, but as times changed, the building's rules evolved, and we could no longer play loud sounds at night. Our working style changed accordingly, and we shifted to daytime hours. That said, we don't always make music there, and with technological advances, we can now create tracks without gathering together, so we meet less frequently than before. Still, writing rap lyrics works better in that room, so I ride my electric bicycle there during the day to work on lyrics.
When I hit a wall with rap lyrics, I'd use magazines lying around or flyers from the mailbox to make collages on notebooks or spare record jackets, waiting for new ideas to emerge. But the collage work itself became more enjoyable, and I found myself going to the workspace not to write lyrics, but just to cut and paste with scissors, a cutter, and glue. Since our music is sampling-based, the process of finding material, combining it, and processing it isn't so different from making collages. I seem to really love the idea of finding material, combining it, and transforming it into something different. Plus, there's this desire I don't fully understand myself to mix in elements of Showa-era special effects (mainly modified humans) and K-POP girl groups to create something new.
My old friend Yonehara (nicknamed Yone-chan) discovered this work, which led to this exhibition. Thank you all for your support.

From Curator Yasumasa Yonehara
I remember ANI handing me "Summer Jam 95" by Scha Dara Parr, saying, "This is a song we're releasing soon."
So my relationship with ANI goes back more than 30 years.
Back then, what were we doing? We didn't have any grand goals. We'd just bring together "hobby projects" we'd been making individually and show each other, asking "What do you think?" It was a pretty niche pastime.
Not to present to the world, not to seek recognition. Just making things we found interesting and sharing them.
That alone was enough to get us excited back then.
A while ago, I learned that he was still quietly creating alongside his main work. I wasn't surprised. It was more like, "Ah, of course he is."
ANI hasn't changed since those days. He's the type of person who continues making things alone in a space separate from music, without anyone asking him to.
What's different between then and now is that these activities we enjoyed late at night in a room with just our friends can now be placed in a proper "exhibition" space where anyone can see them.
What I want to convey here is that ANI is a very "hobby-driven person." And as far as I know, for over 30 years, he's continued doing the same sorts of things with essentially the same energy. Even as trends change, environments shift, and titles accumulate, that initial impulse of "I like this" has remained virtually unchanged.
That's actually quite rare. This exhibition isn't a musician's side project or byproduct. It's simply the visualization of a "hobby's extension" that one person has accumulated over a long time. ANI's work remains interestingly ANI-like even after all these years of creation. I want everyone to see this rare talent of continuous creation.
And I hope you'll think about ANI's unchanging attitude.

About The Gallery Harajuku
For me, The Gallery Harajuku is operated with the hope that it becomes a first step for artists to sell their artwork.
I check SNS daily and visit galleries regularly, always approaching talented artists I encounter there.
When I do, follower counts and exhibition history don't matter at all.
What matters is whether I genuinely think "I want to see this artist's exhibition."
That's my only criteria. I call this place "a place for zero-to-one beginnings."
