Daily tous les jours × CCBT "Enchanted Moments as Resistance — Dancing on It" Opens in Harajuku on November 14

Civic Creative Base Tokyo (CCBT) will hold the exhibition "Enchanted Moments as Resistance — Dancing on It" in collaboration with Daily tous les jours, an art and design studio based in Montreal, Canada, from Saturday, November 14, 2026 to Sunday, January 17, 2027. The venues are CCBT and a plaza on Cat Street in Harajuku (the former Shibuya River promenade). The two venues together form a single exhibition that draws in both visitors and passersby.

Daily tous les jours Questions a Modern Society Where Human Connections Are Growing Weaker

Daily tous les jours was founded in 2010, centered on Melissa Mongiat and Mouna Andraos. Since then, the studio has created works and experiences in cities around the world that bring about chance encounters in public spaces, which presuppose the presence of "strangers" who differ from one another, and give rise to new "connections." Beyond the visual appeal of its works and their openness to everyone, the essence of its practice lies in an approach that sharply captures and questions a modern society in which human connections are growing increasingly weak.

About the Exhibition

Connecting CCBT and Cat Street (the former Shibuya River promenade), voices become light and footsteps become dance. Before you know it, you are singing and dancing with someone you have never met.

The exhibition starts from CCBT and a plaza on Cat Street (the former Shibuya River promenade) and unfolds with Harajuku as its stage. After CCBT's relocation in December 2025, as it came to know the Harajuku area, it took note of the area's unique topography, the local communities that have emerged along it, and the presence of the "waterway" at their center. Covered over on the occasion of the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, the waterway was once also a stage of serendipity, where people enjoyed encounters and discoveries in Tokyo, a city once known as the "City of Water."

Inspired by this "relationship between topography and people," the exhibition temporarily installs infrastructure for people at the two venues connected by the "covered waterway." The "Infrastructure for the Human Spirit" advocated by Daily tous les jours is a kind of "soft" infrastructure that gives people a reason to stop, engage with one another, and interact. By installing works in the Harajuku neighborhood, the exhibition encourages chance encounters and exchanges between strangers and explores the possibility of new connections in public space.

Featured Works: Unexpected Encounters Born from Sound and Light

"Spaghetti Chorus," in which voices become light, is installed at CCBT, and "Walk Walk Dance," in which footsteps become music, is installed on Cat Street (the former Shibuya River promenade). Both are works that make you stop in your tracks and find yourself taking part before you know it.

A "slow" communication device that turns spoken voices into music and light. Through a tube of light connecting two microphones, the recorded voice travels as colorful light and plays a melody. Focusing on the musicality of spoken language, it is one of the works in Daily tous les jours' "Hello" series, which explores new forms of communication through the voice.

Step, hop, dance. This is Daily tous les jours' series of "music-playing lines," in which music starts playing in response to movements on lines drawn on the ground. It turns the everyday act of walking into play that anyone can join, creating an opportunity for people to enjoy the city together. Born in Montreal, the series has been presented across North America, including Toronto, Calgary, Boston, and Detroit.

For this exhibition, a new version of "Walk Walk Dance" is installed on the former Shibuya River promenade. The sound was composed for this work by Tokyo Shiokoji (東京塩麹), and different patterns of tones play depending on the time of day. Visitors can walk, hop, and dance on the lines and enjoy the moment when music emerges from their own movements.

All images of the works are for reference.

Creators from Architecture, Music, and More Join the Exhibition

Creators from the fields of architecture, risograph printing, and music take part in the exhibition, working with Daily tous les jours to create the two venues in Harajuku.

Space Design (CCBT Venue): iii architects (Architect Unit)

iii architects

An architect unit of three members: 殿前莉世, 平井未央, and 福留愛. Centered on architectural design, they work across fields including furniture, gardens, stage design, and exhibitions. By combining the perspectives of three people with different backgrounds, they read the relationship between people and their surroundings through daily observation, aiming for architecture in which new landscapes and places to belong emerge. Their main works include 〈阿久根の兼用住宅〉 (2026) and 〈内之浦の家〉 (2023).

Sound (Walk Walk Dance): Tokyo Shiokoji (東京塩麹) (Contemporary Pop Band)

A contemporary pop band that started in 2013. Centered on the repetition, deconstruction, and reconstruction of sound, the band has drawn attention for a distinctive musicality that is fully transcribed into musical scores despite its band format, and was selected for "DIM. Audition 2016," hosted by disk union. In 2017, it released its first album, "FACTORY," which New York composer Steve Reich praised as a "wonderful live band." It appeared at FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL '18 in 2018, and held a tour of five cities across Japan for its third album, "Goodbye," released in 2023. That album was nominated for the Best Asian Creative Artist award at The 14th Golden Indie Music Awards, an Asian music award.

Graphic Design and Risograph: Nana Okubo (オオクボナナ) (Risograph Printer, Illustrator, Designer)

Nana Okubo

A printer specializing in risograph, handling everything from color separation and color design to printing. Since 2024, Okubo has been in charge of risograph printing for the magazine "NEUTRAL COLORS." Mainly on commission from artists and designers, Okubo prints ZINEs, art books, posters, and more, and also creates works that make use of risograph under the name "nana," with buildings and familiar scenery as motifs.
