Thirty-six Views of Jashin, an art book that reimagines Katsushika Hokusai's celebrated Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji ukiyo-e series through the lens of Cthulhu Mythos, was released on March 24, 2026, published by Two Virgins Co., Ltd.
About the Book
In this collaboration art book, each of the 46 prints from Hokusai's Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji series features a Cthulhu Mythos deity lurking within the composition. Shadowy forms hide beneath the towering wave in "The Great Wave off Kanagawa," an otherworldly sky swirls above the summit while the foot of the mountain is struck by lightning in "South Wind, Clear Sky," and unspeakable presences watch over the bustling streets of Edo — 46 different deities appear across all 46 prints.
The book is entirely in full color, and each page includes detailed commentary on the identity of the featured deity and the circumstances behind its appearance at that particular scenic location near Mount Fuji. A bonus section of "evil deity ukiyo-e" illustrations is also included.
Immersive "What If" World of Edo-Period Japan
The book explores the premise of eldritch beings appearing in everyday Edo-period Japan. With every page in full color, readers can immerse themselves fully in this alternate vision of classical Japanese art.

Comprehensive Commentary on All 46 Works
Despite being called "Thirty-six Views," the series actually comprises 46 prints — and this book covers all of them. Each page features in-depth commentary that delves into the nuances of the setting and the nature of each deity, reflecting the author's meticulous attention to detail.
