About Tim Ho Wan
Tim Ho Wan is a dim sum specialty restaurant founded in 2009 in Hong Kong by Mak Kwai Pui, who served as the dim sum chef at the Michelin three-star Cantonese restaurant 'Lung King Heen' at the Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong for four consecutive years, together with his partner Leung Fai Keung. The restaurant was established with the concept of offering first-class hotel quality in a more casual, everyday setting.
It gained a reputation as a restaurant where diners could enjoy first-class hotel-quality food at everyday prices, earning a Michelin one-star rating in 2010 and becoming known as "the world's most affordable Michelin restaurant." Today, it has become a world-famous establishment visited by foreign tourists to Hong Kong.
In Japan, the first location opened at Hibiya in 2018, followed by Shinjuku Southern Terrace, Tokyo Dome City LaQua, and in 2024, the fourth domestic location and first Kansai store opened at Umeda Chayamachi. In October 2025, the first Chiba Prefecture location opened at LaLaport TOKYO-BAY. All locations have become extremely popular, with constant queues, and have established themselves as gourmet tourist destinations.
All dim sum served are based on original recipes by Mak and Leung, with each item carefully handmade in each restaurant's kitchen. The menu consists of categories including steamed dishes, fried items, rice noodle rolls, congee, sticky rice, vegetables, and desserts. Among them, the signature dish "Baked Char Siu Bao" (also called Char Siu Melon Pan) is a must-try item ordered by nearly all guests.
