The Tokyo Art Dealers Association is holding Tobi Art Fair 2026 for three days, from Friday, October 16 to Sunday, October 18, at Tokyo Art Club. The fair brings together leading art dealers from across Japan, each showing and selling a carefully chosen selection of works backed by their own connoisseurship and long-standing trust, making it Japan's longest-running art fair. This year, 118 dealers will fill all four floors of the venue, presenting more than 2,000 exceptional pieces spanning eras and genres, including antiques, tea ceremony utensils, crafts, modern and contemporary art, and swords. It is a rare, once-a-year opportunity to see and closely examine everything from museum-quality masterpieces to more affordable works.
The Machida City Museum Collection Exhibition will also be held at the same time, alongside gallery talks, tea ceremony service, and other related programs throughout the fair. Visitors are invited to come and discover new encounters with art.

At Tobi Art Fair 2026: A Lineage of Beauty From Ancient Times to Today
This year's fair lines up ancient and medieval masterpieces, including an ash-glazed stamped-pattern vessel from ancient China that hints at the origins of the world-famous Northern Song celadon, a painted civil-official figure and beauty figure from the High Tang dynasty with rich sculptural form, and a seated Nyoirin Kannon statue with a serene expression and remarkable state of preservation. Also on view are works conveying the spirituality and aesthetic sensibility of Japanese culture, such as a waka poem composed by Sen Sotan at age seventy-five, a sword guard depicting a bold design of the Wind God and Thunder God, and a flower vase by Kitaoji Rosanjin, who was both a calligrapher and a potter.
In modern and contemporary art, the fair features paintings by Matsumoto Shunsuke, who spent his 36-year life continuously painting the city, people, landscapes, and self-portraits, and Yamaguchi Takeo, a pioneer of Japanese abstract painting.
The fair also includes works by artists from Japan and abroad, such as Kawai Kanjiro, who built an original artistic world on the spirit of the Mingei folk-craft movement, the British ceramicist Lucie Rie, one of the 20th century's leading potters, Miyake Mai, who fuses traditional Japanese art and craft with a contemporary sensibility, and Mori Moe, a rising young Nihonga painter drawing attention with her modern outlook.
From ancient times to the present, Tobi Art Fair 2026 lets history and new forms of expression resonate together. Visitors are invited to see it for themselves and experience the depth of art at a fair where beauty passed down across eras and genres can be encountered firsthand.
