One of Japan's largest hula dance festivals, the 24th Tokyo Hula Festa in Ikebukuro 2026, is set to be held across four venues in Ikebukuro over three days, from June 5 (Friday) to 7 (Sunday), 2026.
166 Teams and About 2,800 Performers From Across Japan
Having traditionally taken place in July as a summer staple, this year's festival moves to June to protect participating artists and visitors from the intense summer heat. Under the catchphrase "Hula Winds from Ikebukuro," the 24th edition brings together 166 teams and approximately 2,800 performers from across Japan.
Pre-Festival Night: June 5
A pre-festival night event will kick things off at Ikebukuro West Exit Park Global Ring on June 5 (Friday) from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with food stalls opening from 11:00 AM. The program includes a special live performance by "Kimiko Ota and The Birds," pioneers of the Japanese Hawaiian band scene, along with music by the executive committee band and hula and Tahitian dance shows performed by children — all setting a vibrant Hawaiian mood ahead of the main festival.
Main Festival: June 6 and 7
The main festival runs on June 6 (Saturday) and 7 (Sunday) from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with the main venue staying open until 7:00 PM. Performances spread across four venues throughout Ikebukuro:
- Ikebukuro West Exit Park Global Ring (main venue)
- Sunshine City B1 Fountain Plaza
- Naka-Ikebukuro Park
- Tobu Department Store 8F Rooftop Sky Deck Plaza
Teams will fill the streets and plazas of Ikebukuro with hula music and dance over the two days. Programming includes "Let's All Dance! Hula Night," an interactive event where everyone at the venue joins in and dances hula together, as well as food stalls offering Hawaiian goods and products from sister and friendly cities.
