TOSHIMA STREET FES 2026 Turns Ikebukuro Into a Street Culture Stage From November 1 to 3

"TOSHIMA STREET FES 2026 (TSFes 2026)," an urban culture festival, will be held around Ikebukuro Station in Toshima Ward, Tokyo, for three days from November 1 (Sun) to 3 (Tue, national holiday), 2026.

The festival is a celebration of street culture created jointly by the local government, companies, performers and the community. It started in 2023, and this year marks its fourth edition. About 75,000 people attended last year. The festival is centered on the Ikebukuro West Gate Park Global Ring (池袋西口公園グローバルリング) and also uses multiple other venues, including Naka-Ikebukuro Park (中池袋公園), Tobu Department Store Ikebukuro (東武百貨店 池袋店) and Animate Theater (アニメイトシアター). Street dance, DJ, rap, art, urban sports and food are all part of the program.

Visitors can do more than watch: they can take on challenges and express themselves, as the streets of Ikebukuro turn into a big playground for three days.

Top Players From Many Genres Gather

FREESTYLE SPACE supported by Bic Camera (ビックカメラ) is a freestyle culture mix battle in which players compete across genres, including dance, freestyle football, freestyle basketball and kendama (けん玉).

  • BREAK ST (November 3): A 2-on-2 breaking battle organized by FOUND NATION.
  • VINYL ELEMENT (November 1): A DJ battle.
  • LYRICIST LOUNGE (November 1): A hip-hop program that combines a live performance with an MC battle.

The freestyle football program "KICK 2 THE BALL" is also planned.

  • "UNIVERSOUL," a dance battle among university students (November 2)

A New Program Where Companies and Locals Take the Stage

On November 2, the West Gate Global Ring will host a karaoke program called "MIC ON! TOSHIMA," in which companies and members of the executive committee take part. The program creates a chance for people from the community and companies, not only professional performers, to step onto the stage.

Street Culture Classes at Three Local Schools Before the Festival

TSFes also works to give local children a chance to experience street culture, not only to liven up the event days. Ahead of this year's festival, visiting classes introducing various forms of hip-hop expression, such as DJ, rap, dance and graffiti, were held at three schools:

  • Toshima Ward Hoyu Elementary School (豊島区立朋有小学校): September 24
  • Toshima Ward Sugamo Elementary School (豊島区立巣鴨小学校): September 30
  • Toshima Ward Nishi-Sugamo Junior High School (豊島区立西巣鴨中学校): October 13

The classes went beyond promoting the festival, giving children a chance to discover the appeal of the culture, move their bodies and experience creative expression. By building up this kind of contact with schools and the community, TSFes aims to make street culture a familiar part of everyday life.

Aiming to Make Toshima a Holy Land of Street Culture

TSFes began in 2023 as a project in which the local government, companies, creators and the community work together.

The goal is not a one-off event but to nurture an environment in the city where children and young people can find what they love, take on challenges and share their work. For three days, stages and schools, companies and creators, and residents and visitors come together, with the message sent out from Ikebukuro.
