The "Toshima City Artists Association Exhibition" is being held at Echika Ikebukuro Gallery, located in the passageway inside Ikebukuro Station, from October 1 to October 29, 2026.
About the Association
The Nagasaki, Chihaya, Kanamecho, and Takamatsu districts of present-day Toshima City were once known as Ikebukuro Montparnasse, an atelier village where artists gathered.
The Toshima City Artists Association was launched around Goro Tsuruta (1890–1969, Western-style painter). Founded in 1954, it enters its 72nd year this year. Its participating artists have been active in the fields of Japanese-style painting, Western-style painting, sculpture, and crafts.
About the Exhibition
The exhibition presents nine Japanese-style and Western-style paintings by members of the Toshima City Artists Association. Visitors can see works by Toshima artists carrying on a tradition that has continued since the days of Ikebukuro Montparnasse.
