Amvel took the opposite approach. Rather than accepting the trade-off between "easy to fold" and "lightweight," the company sought to eliminate it entirely. Committed to its design philosophy of keeping products light and slim, Amvel turned to a technology that had once been used in the umbrella industry but had since fallen out of mainstream production: shape-memory yarn.
