Ultraman 60th Anniversary x JR Tokai: Journey of Light in Toyohashi Event Features World-Premiere VR Experience

From February 28, 2026 (Saturday) through April 26, 2026 (Sunday), Toyohashi City in Aichi Prefecture is being transformed into an "Ultraman city." JR Tokai (Central Japan Railway Company), Toyohashi City, and JTB Communication Design have joined forces to present a special collaboration event: "JR Tokai x Ultraman Series 60th Anniversary Special — Journey of Light in Toyohashi."

Why Toyohashi x Ultraman? The Story Behind the Partnership

JR Tokai and Toyohashi City signed a regional revitalization cooperation agreement in 2024, and have since worked together on initiatives using popular titles such as Monster Hunter and Too Many Losing Heroines! This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Ultraman Series, making it the perfect occasion for a new collaboration as part of JR Tokai's ongoing "Oshi-Tabi" (fandom travel) campaign. A world-premiere VR event has been brought to Toyohashi, paired with local specialty tie-ins and tourism activities across the city, creating an Ultraman-themed experience for visitors from arrival to exploration.

What to Expect

Visitors are escorted by Ultraman through the "Light Country Museum," where they can view 60 years of series history and see large-scale monster exhibits. The VR experience's standout moment is a battle sequence between Ultraman and monsters viewed in full immersion — with VR goggles on, the entire field of view fills with the museum world, allowing visitors to walk freely, approach monster exhibits, and take in scenes from different angles, as if genuinely stepping into the Ultraman universe. The climax places visitors right in the middle of an Ultraman versus monster battle.

Another popular feature is the ability to take commemorative photos with monsters and Ultraman during the experience. Photos can be downloaded to a smartphone afterward, making for a memorable keepsake. The experience is suitable both for longtime Ultraman fans and those trying VR for the first time.

Tokaido Shinkansen In-Train Content

Riding the Shinkansen itself becomes part of the fun with these exclusive in-train experiences.

① Ultraman AR Photo Frame

While riding the Tokaido Shinkansen, passengers can photograph an Ultraman flying alongside the train against the passing landscape using an AR feature. Three different Ultraman characters appear depending on the section of the route (Tokyo–Nagoya–Osaka), and the direction the Ultraman flies also changes on the outbound versus return journey. To participate, simply access the campaign site while onboard, complete a speed measurement, and answer a short survey (free account registration required).

② Shinkansen Boarding Benefit: Limited Clear File

Passengers who complete the AR Photo Frame experience receive a digital boarding certificate. Presenting this certificate at the Toyohashi Tourist Information Center (inside Toyohashi Station, outside the Shinkansen gate) earns a limited-edition clear file featuring a JR Tokai x Ultraman Series 60th Anniversary design. Redemption is limited to one per person per day, and supplies are limited.

City-Wide AR & Layered Stamp Rally

Scanning a QR code at five locations throughout Toyohashi City with a smartphone triggers the appearance of a giant Ultra Hero in AR. A different character appears at each location, making it fun to collect all of them while exploring the city. A "layered stamp rally" runs simultaneously — stamping a dedicated card at each location creates a completed illustration when all stamps are layered together. Cards are available at each stamp location.
