The "Unatera Don" (¥1,300, tax included) that eel specialty restaurant Nadai Unatoto released on October 2 has sold more than 10,000 servings in the four weeks since its release. It was originally scheduled to run until November 1, but it will continue to be sold at some stores until Sunday, December 6.
In addition, from Friday, November 6 to Sunday, December 6, the "Appetite for Autumn! Hearty Unakara Don Fair" will offer the new "Unakara Don," a bowl filled with charcoal-grilled kabayaki eel and fried chicken, at 13 directly operated stores. It comes in four sizes, from the Namimori (regular) at ¥1,200 (tax included) to the Akumamori (悪魔盛) at ¥2,980 (tax included), which has three times the eel of the Namimori, 8 pieces of fried chicken and a total weight of over 1 kg. For days when you want a hearty meal, the bowl puts both eel and fried chicken on top for ¥1,200.
Since its founding in December 2000, Unatoto has aimed to make eel more casual and more filling. Through the last day of its 25th anniversary year, the chain is offering these two eel bowls as a thank-you to the customers who have supported it.
1,000 Servings in 3 Days, 10,000 in 4 Weeks. Unatera Don Continues Until December 6
The Unatera Don is covered with bite-sized pieces of kabayaki laid out until the rice is no longer visible, so chopsticks land on eel wherever they go. It is the most straightforward expression of Unatoto's "plenty of eel" approach. The bowl was born in January 2025, when rice prices were continuing to rise, out of the wish that customers could still eat until full, and its price has stayed at ¥1,300 (tax included) since its first appearance. This is its fifth appearance.
After its release on October 2, it passed 1,000 servings in 3 days and 5,000 servings in 13 days, and reached 10,000 servings in 4 weeks. A pork soup set is available for an additional ¥380 (tax included), for enjoying the bowl as the weather gets colder.
One Bite of Eel, One Bite of Fried Chicken. The New Unakara Don Starts at ¥1,200
The bowl arrives within a few minutes of sitting down. Lifting the lid releases the aroma of charcoal and the sweet smell of the sauce. Next to the fragrantly grilled kabayaki are pieces of fried chicken with a crisp coating and a juicy inside, with a single onsen egg on top.
Breaking the yolk and mixing it with the sauce coats both the eel and the fried chicken, and the sweet-savory rice goes down quickly. One bite of eel, one bite of fried chicken, and another with the egg mixed in. The richness of the mayonnaise and the aroma of shredded nori are added as well, so the bowl can be finished without getting tired of it.
It is a "both on top" bowl for people who find eel alone a little unsatisfying and want something more filling.

Extra-large rice is free with every size, and a set of pork soup and pickles (oshinko) can be added for an additional ¥330 (tax included).
2,000 Servings in the Series, and Akumamori Returns With Fried Chicken
Akumamori, Unatoto's largest size, has passed a cumulative 2,000 servings in the six months since its debut in May, and 80 to 100 challengers still come for it every week. This time it comes with 8 pieces of fried chicken added, for a total weight of over 1 kg. The bowl of eel and fried chicken that looks ready to spill over the rim can be seen at the stores (Akumamori is dine-in only).
Closing the 25th Anniversary With "Filling" Bowls
In this 25th anniversary year, Unatoto has run a series of promotions for enjoying eel until full: the "Bakumori Unagi Matsuri" (爆盛うなぎ祭り), "Akumamori," the "Tsukimi Tera Doon Fair" (月見テラどーんフェア) and "Unatera Don." The Unatera Don and the Unakara Don are the two bowls that close out the anniversary year. Unatoto says it will keep working to be a restaurant where people can enjoy eel casually and until full.
