Two popular works by Hiromu Arakawa are heading to Universal Studios Japan at the same time. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood will return to the park for the first time in 22 years, and Daemons of the Shadow Realm will make its debut as a collaboration there. Both are part of Universal Cool Japan 2027, a special event at the park, which has reached its 25th anniversary, that recreates the worlds of Japanese entertainment works so that guests can experience them with their whole bodies. The event opens in stages from December 2, 2026, and the limited-time programs for the two new collaborations are scheduled to begin in spring 2027.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
- Period: Scheduled for spring 2027
- Format: To be announced at a later date
This is the park's second collaboration with Fullmetal Alchemist, and the first in 22 years. The limited-time program offers a "super-real" entertainment experience built around the work, which is affectionately known as "Hagaren."
The first collaboration was the special event Fullmetal Alchemist Premiere Tour, held in spring 2005 as the park's first collaboration with a Japanese TV anime.
Fullmetal Alchemist is a dark fantasy masterpiece about the brothers Edward and Alphonse, who lose everything after committing the taboo of "human transmutation" in an attempt to revive their late mother, and set out on a journey to get back what they lost. Worldwide series sales have passed 90 million copies in total, and the work is still hugely popular around the world as it marks its 25th anniversary.
About Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
The TV anime aired from April 2009 to July 2010. It is based on Hiromu Arakawa's popular manga Fullmetal Alchemist, serialized in Monthly Shōnen Gangan (published by Square Enix) and winner of the 49th Shogakukan Manga Award.
Having lost everything by committing the taboo of "human transmutation" to revive their late mother, the Elric brothers travel in search of the Philosopher's Stone to get back what they lost, and eventually face a conspiracy that involves the entire nation.
Daemons of the Shadow Realm
- Period: Scheduled for spring 2027
- Format: To be announced at a later date
The park will also hold its first collaboration with Daemons of the Shadow Realm, the latest hit TV anime by Hiromu Arakawa. It is the first time the work has teamed up with a theme park, and the program will offer a "super-real" entertainment experience.
Daemons of the Shadow Realm is currently serialized in Monthly Shōnen Gangan (published by Square Enix), and its series sales have passed 7.5 million copies in total. The work was adapted as a TV anime in spring 2026, and production of a second season has also been decided. The eerie fantasy centers on the twins Yuru and Asa, who "divide night and day," with a story where mystery and the uncanny intersect and breathtaking, fresh-feeling Tsugai battles fought by characters who command Tsugai.
About the Daemons of the Shadow Realm TV Anime
The TV anime is based on Hiromu Arakawa's latest work. The first season earned strong acclaim in Japan and overseas and has reached its finale, and a second season has been confirmed. The mysteries and grudges grow more complex, new powerful enemies stand in the way, and the Tsugai battles become even more intense.
