MUTEK.JP 2026 — 11th Edition, an international festival of electronic music and digital creativity, will be held from November 20 (Friday) to November 23 (Monday, national holiday), 2026. The festival is centered on MoN Takanawa: The Museum of Narratives in TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY, and Yamaha Corporation is taking part.
MUTEK is an international cultural and arts festival that promotes the development and spread of digital creativity, where music, art, and technology intersect, with a focus on electronic music, digital art, and audiovisual expression. Held in cities around the world, it creates opportunities for innovative artistic expression and creative exchange. MUTEK.JP, the Japan edition, offers a diverse program that includes live performances by artists from Japan and abroad, as well as conferences and workshops.
Yamaha is taking part with three initiatives: an interactive spatial experience using its Sound xR immersive audio solution, acoustic support for live performances by NEXO, the professional speaker brand of the Yamaha Group, and a talk by its research and development team at IRCAM Forum Day, which is being held in Tokyo for the first time.
In addition to developing and providing musical instruments and audio equipment, Yamaha has built up research and development on sound and music, exploring new possibilities for expression and experiences together with artists, creators, and engineers. Through its participation in MUTEK.JP, the company aims to expand people's creativity and expressiveness through sound and technology and to create new music and sound experiences that move people.
1. Interactive Installation with the Sound xR Immersive Audio Solution
Date: November 20 (Friday) to November 22 (Sunday), 2026
Venue: MoN Takanawa "Tatami"
An interactive installation of sound and visuals using Yamaha's Sound xR immersive audio solution will be on display. Sound and visuals respond to visitors' movements, creating a spatial experience that can only happen at that moment and in that place. Rather than simply listening to sound, visitors are surrounded by it and can feel the space itself, an experience that suggests new possibilities for expression.
2. Live Event Support with the NEXO "Alpha+" System
Date: November 20 (Friday) to November 22 (Sunday), 2026
Venue: MoN Takanawa "BOX300"
BOX300, where the MUTEK.JP live program takes place, will use the "Alpha+" system from NEXO, the professional speaker brand of the Yamaha Group. The system supports live performances by artists from Japan and abroad with high-quality sound, conveying each artist's expression more faithfully and giving the audience a rich live experience.
3. Keynote by the Yamaha R&D Team at "IRCAM Forum Day"
Date and time: November 20 (Friday), 2026, 3:00 PM to 3:50 PM
Venue: MoN Takanawa "Park Terrace"
Yamaha's research and development team will take the stage at "IRCAM Forum Day," which MUTEK.JP is organizing in collaboration with IRCAM. The IRCAM Forum is an international community where artists, researchers, and developers exchange ideas and explore where scientific research and artistic creation meet. The Tokyo program is scheduled to include sessions on themes such as AI and music and sound design.
Drawing on research examples such as AI-based music production and performance support technologies and "Real Sound Viewing," the team will present its research and development efforts on how technology can expand human creativity and expressiveness.
