A special exhibition marking the 100th anniversary of the death of Antoni Gaudí, the Spanish architect, will open in Tokyo on Saturday, November 28, 2026. "Antoni Gaudí. Architecture and Art : Special Exhibition Commemorating the 100th Anniversary of His Death" runs through Wednesday, January 27, 2027 as part of "Gaudí Year 2026" (ガウディ・イヤー2026). It is held in cooperation with the Consell Antoni Gaudí (Antoni Gaudí Council), an advisory body of the Government of Catalonia.

About the Exhibition
The exhibition looks at Gaudí, the architect behind seven UNESCO World Heritage sites, not merely from a commercial perspective. It explores his idea of the "total work of art" (Gesamtkunstwerk), which unites structure, function and beauty.
A total of 160 works, carefully selected from major archives as well as private collections and photo archives, are shown on a scale not seen before. The major archives include the ETSAB Archive (Gaudí Chair at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia), the Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation, Casa Batlló, Casa Vicens, Casa Botines, Palau Güell, Bellesguard House and the Barcelona Design Museum. Through handwritten architectural drawings, watercolors, detailed three-dimensional models, original furniture and decorative ironwork, the exhibition traces Gaudí's career. It covers his early works, the project for the Mataró Workers' Cooperative, the major works commissioned by Eusebi Güell, representative urban residences such as Casa Calvet, Casa Batlló and Casa Milà "La Pedrera", and the Sagrada Família, the masterpiece of his life.
The exhibition is curated by Charo Sanjuán and consists of an introduction and eight thematic sections. Together they present Gaudí's architectural thought and his path as an artist as a single story. Immersive spatial design and official exhibition goods are also available so that visitors can experience the master's architectural world.
The Tokyo venue is the 3rd-floor exhibition space at Tokyu Plaza Shibuya. After Tokyo, the exhibition will tour to Osaka.
