A new women's "ultra-lightweight jacket" has arrived at Yofuku no Aoyama stores nationwide and the brand's official online store, starting May 20. The jacket uses a new material called Camifu®, featuring a smooth, washi-like texture and weighing approximately the same as a single bottled canned coffee — around 270g.
With May already recording summer-like temperatures across Japan and the Japan Meteorological Agency forecasting continued above-average heat through July, demand for practical warm-weather business attire has risen earlier than usual. Many business professionals still rely on jackets for important meetings and client visits, yet common concerns include heat discomfort when worn outdoors and wrinkles when carried in a bag. This jacket was developed in response to those challenges.
Camifu® Material and Its Hollow Fiber Structure
The key to the jacket's extreme lightness lies in its material, Camifu®. It uses a specially structured polyester fiber called a "hollow fiber" (中空糸), which has a flat C-shaped cross-section that creates an internal air layer. This gives the fabric a pleasant body while keeping weight to a minimum.
The C-shaped slit in the fiber cross-section also allows sweat to be absorbed more quickly than standard fibers and released outward. In addition to this moisture-wicking and quick-dry performance, the jacket offers a cool-touch sensation, wrinkle resistance, and machine-washability — making it practical for use throughout summer.
By minimizing the lining and eliminating shoulder pads, the jacket can be put on as casually as a cardigan. Even when folded and packed into a bag, it resists wrinkling, so it can be taken out and worn again without concern.
