Starting May 2026, the "Awaji Island Onion Curry" (retort pouch) is now on sale at Awaji Bussan-kan, the souvenir shop on the 1st floor of the Oasis Hall at Awaji Highway Oasis. Located at the gateway to Awaji Island within Hyogo Prefectural Awaji Island Park, the facility offers a direct connection from the Awaji Service Area on the Kobe-Awaji-Naruto Expressway.

About the Awaji Island Onion Curry (Retort Pouch)
The curry features slowly sautéed onions complemented by the gentle sweetness of apple and banana, the acidity of red wine and tomato paste, and the deep umami of beef extract and chicken bouillon. Two types of curry powder blended with a proprietary selection of spices and chutney create layered aromas and flavors, while demi-glace sauce and butter give the curry a rich, full-bodied finish.

About Awaji Island Onions

Hyogo Prefecture's Awaji Island is one of Japan's foremost onion-producing regions, with the prefecture ranking among the nation's top onion-growing areas. Awaji Island onions are celebrated for their sweetness, tenderness, and juiciness — qualities rooted in two natural advantages: the island's long sunshine hours and mild Seto Inland Sea climate, and its well-drained, mineral-rich soil nurtured by sea breezes. These conditions together produce the island's signature sweet, juicy, and tender onions.

In 2016, "Shima Lemon" — a light craft beer made with Allen Eureka lemons grown on Awaji Island — made its debut. Using lemons cultivated in the island's Seto Inland Sea climate and flavored naturally with lemon peel (no added flavorings), it offers a refreshing taste approachable even for those who do not usually drink beer. Particularly popular among women in their 20s to 40s, it is now celebrating its 10th anniversary on sale.
Facilities at Awaji Highway Oasis
Awaji Bussan-kan (Oasis Hall, 1F)

The shop stocks over 1,300 items from Awaji Island, Shikoku, and Kobe — including local seafood, vegetables, craft beer "Awaji Beer," Awaji Onion Soup, Awaji Onion Dressing, and the long-selling "Take Chikuwa Takeyan." A major draw is the world-first onion soup tap (Awaji Onion Soup Stand), which dispenses soup made from 100% Awaji Island-grown onions.

Sushidokoro "Sushitomi" (Oasis Hall, 2F)
Skilled sushi chefs serve seasonal catch from nearby waters, including hamo (pike conger) from Numa Island, red sea urchin from Yura, and three-year tiger pufferfish from Fukura — offering a genuine taste of Awaji Island's ocean bounty.
Oasis Main Dining "Mikke" (Oasis Hall, 2F)
A wide-ranging menu from Japanese to Western cuisine spotlights Awaji Island's seasonal ingredients — Awaji beef, sea bream, Spanish mackerel, and limited-period fresh shirasu (whitebait), among others.
Food Court "Oashisu Kitchen" (Oasis Hall, 1F)
A local food court serving island specialties such as Awaji beef bento, shirasu donburi, and Awaji beef udon. An open kitchen allows guests to watch dishes being prepared.
Café Oasis (Oasis Hall, 1F)
The café serves milk soft serve made with rich Awaji Island milk, and the Oasis Burger — a juicy creation using Awaji beef and Awaji onions — alongside other island-inspired bites.
Fresh Pasta and Wood-Fired Pizza "Trepici" (Annex)
Creative pasta and pizza dishes showcase abundant Awaji Island ingredients. The pizza is fired in a high-temperature oven for a crispy outside and chewy interior, served in a convenient size to pair with pasta. No garlic or chili peppers are used in the pizza.
Oasis Dog Café (Annex)
The only venue at Awaji Highway Oasis where dogs are welcome inside. An indoor mini dog run lets pets roam while owners enjoy a meal. Photo spots near the café offer views of the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge and make for memorable shots with four-legged companions.
