What Is "BEAMS PARK"?

1976, Harajuku.

BEAMS began as a small shop of about 6.5 tsubo, packed with the lifestyle of students on the American West Coast. Its interests did not stop at fashion. They spread to music, sports, food, and many other cultures connected to everyday life.

Moving from one interest to the one right next to it, BEAMS has found interesting things, interpreted them from its own point of view, and drawn many people in through its shops and events. That accumulated enthusiasm has widened the scope of its activities over the years.

"BEAMS PARK" is a multi-genre event that gathers the various cultures BEAMS has encountered over those 50 years in one place.

Visitors can wander around the venue freely, as if strolling through a park, and enjoy encounters with new people and new cultures. Held on February 6, "BEAMS PARK" is both the finale of the 50th anniversary and an event where visitors can get a feel for the start of what comes next for BEAMS.

Details of the event content are scheduled to be announced around noon (12:00 PM) on Friday, October 30. (The announcement date may change.)

How to spend the day is entirely up to each visitor. For the 50th-anniversary finale, BEAMS is bringing everything it loves to Yoyogi.

More information is available on BEAMS's official news page.

About Artist Koji Yamaguchi

Koji Yamaguchi

The artwork shown above is by Koji Yamaguchi.

Drawing on the viewpoint of someone who has skated through city streets on a skateboard since his teens, Yamaguchi uses everyday scenes and objects to create paintings in which his unspoken emotions, the passing of time, and the stories and history behind them show through.

After three years of activity in New York starting in 2015, he is now based in Tokyo and Kanagawa. In 2022, he held a five-day-only solo exhibition, "Chiisana Hikari" ("Small Light"), inside a factory in his hometown of Kawasaki, which drew a big response. In 2023, he was selected for a wall art project at Ginza Sony Park, and his range of activity continues to grow.
