The event lets guests savor Ibaraki's chestnuts to the fullest throughout their stay, from an arrival tea set to a nightcap dessert, a wake-up drink, and an in-stay lottery.
Background
Ibaraki Prefecture, home to BEB5 Tsuchiura, accounts for roughly a quarter of Japan's domestic chestnut production and actually ranks first nationwide in both growing area and shipment volume (*). Chestnut cultivation in Ibaraki is said to date back to around 1897 and is now widespread across the prefecture. This event was planned to let guests taste chestnuts, which come into season in autumn, through a variety of sweets, and to introduce them to the appeal of Ibaraki's chestnuts.

Four Highlights of "Sweet Marron Time"
1. Arrive and Unwind With the "Sweet Marron Tea Set"
After checking in, guests can unwind with the "Sweet Marron Tea Set," a spread of tea and chestnut treats. Served on a chestnut-shaped plate, the set includes bite-sized sweets such as chestnut ice cream, terrine, and cookies—perfect for sharing over an afternoon break. The tea served alongside is a gently scented Sashima wakocha (Japanese black tea) chosen so as not to overpower the chestnuts' delicate aroma.
2. A Nightcap Dessert: The "Cream-Loaded Double Marron Mont Blanc"
As a nightcap after dinner, guests can enjoy a luxurious Mont Blanc piled high with cream. Two kinds of chestnut cream, made from different chestnut varieties and production methods, are available, and guests can pipe both onto their dessert themselves using a press. One cream highlights the chestnut's natural flavor, while the other, made with chestnuts simmered with their inner skins on (shibukawa-ni), offers a richer depth—guests can compare the two or share them with friends.
3. Pedal-Powered: The "Wake-Up Marron Smoothie"
In the mornings, the cafe sells a smoothie that pairs chestnut with milk. Guests make their own using BEB5 Tsuchiura's signature "Fender Blender," a bicycle-powered blender, enjoying a bit of morning exercise while whipping up a refreshing drink to start the day.
4. Win Chestnut Sweets: The "Sweet Marron Lottery"
During their stay, guests can try the "Sweet Marron Lottery" in the TAMARIBA public space. Drawing a card-style lottery ticket illustrated with chestnut motifs can win the period-limited Mont Blanc or Marron Smoothie. Guests can take the card home with them, displaying it in their room or tucking it into their phone case to keep enjoying the chestnut design long after the trip.
