Biwako Hotel (located in Otsu, Shiga Prefecture) will host a kids' workshop titled "Temari Sushi Making" on Children's Day, Tuesday, May 5, 2026. The session will be led by the head chef of the hotel's Japanese restaurant, "Nihon Ryori Oomi."
The workshop is designed to give children a hands-on experience of the joy of cooking and an appreciation for food. Participants will watch the chef's techniques up close and try their hand at shaping shari (sushi rice) and decorating it with toppings — a process that the hotel hopes will spark children's interest in ingredients and an appreciation for the family members who cook for them every day.
After the workshop, families can sit down together to enjoy lunch at "Nihon Ryori Oomi," with the temari sushi that the children made as the centerpiece of the meal.

Following the workshop, families can share a special Golden Week meal together. Two children's menu options are available, selectable at the time of booking based on the child's age and preferences.
Adult Menu
A visually vibrant lunch using seasonal ingredients, featuring spring flavors such as sawara (Spanish mackerel) with kinome (young leaves) glaze and hamaguri (clam) chawanmushi (steamed egg custard).
Children's Menu
To give children a genuine taste of dining culture, the kids' menu is served on the same ceramic tableware used by adults. Popular dishes such as hamburger steak and fried chicken are included.
