Café 1894, the museum café and bar adjacent to the Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum in Marunouchi, Tokyo, will offer a limited-edition seasonal afternoon tea set from January 26 (Monday) to February 17 (Tuesday), 2026. This special offering is available during the museum's exhibition changeover period.
Main Theme: "Palette in Three Colors - Red, White, and Green"
The afternoon tea showcases the vibrant red of glossy berries, the softly spreading white, and the deep green that pistachio brings. The three-color palette balances seasonal ingredients across sweet and savory compositions, creating an afternoon tea worthy of a winter reward.
The sub-theme is "Berry and Pistachio." The star of the show is the strawberry rosé terrine, with pistachio accents scattered throughout the plate, expressing winter flavors in a diverse way through the three-color palette of red, white, and green.
Red is represented through fresh strawberries, cakes topped with cherries, and strawberry macarons, creating a gorgeous sweetness. White features the smooth melt of white chocolate, and the depth and richness brought by whipped salted butter and cheese, giving the flavors a rich expansion. The green pistachio financiers and verrines* add fragrance and texture along with colorful accents.
*Verrine: A French-originated dessert made by layering ingredients in a glass

The freshness of the strawberries combines with the fragrance of finely crushed pistachios, allowing you to enjoy the clear mouthfeel characteristic of jelly. White chocolate adds winter-like mellowness, and the red, white, and green colors create a beautiful first plate.

Twilight, Shin-hanga - From Kobayashi Kiyochika to Kawase Hasui
Period: February 19, 2026 (Thursday) to May 24, 2026 (Sunday)
The "Tokyo Meisho-zu" (Famous Views of Tokyo) series started by Kobayashi Kiyochika, known as the last ukiyo-e artist, in 1876 (Meiji 9) brought about a transformation in Meiji-era landscape prints. Works depicting the appearance of twilight and the state of light sparkling in the darkness were called "light and shadow pictures," capturing the atmosphere of Edo through shadow. This perspective overlaps with the sentimentality of people lamenting the disappearing remnants of Edo and the desire to record them through photography, drawing a line from the kaika-e (civilization and enlightenment pictures) that optimistically captured cities transforming through bunmei kaika (civilization and enlightenment) with vivid colors.
The shin-hanga movement that aimed to revive ukiyo-e at the end of the Meiji period inherited not only the techniques but also the sentiment that Kiyochika and others tried to capture on screen, discovering new Japanese landscapes.
This exhibition traces the flow of landscape prints from Kiyochika to Yoshida Hiroshi and Kawase Hasui through the Muller Collection of the Smithsonian National Museum of Asian Art.
