Calbee is releasing a new limited-edition flavor, Potato Chips Tom Yum Kung Flavor, capturing the sour and spicy taste of the popular Thai soup. The chips go on sale at convenience stores nationwide from August 31, 2026 (Mon), with wider availability at other stores from September 7, 2026 (Mon).
Background
The Calbee Potato Chips series marked its 50th anniversary last year and remains a long-selling favorite. Alongside staples such as "Usushio" (lightly salted), "Consommé Punch," and "Nori Shio" (seaweed and salt), the brand releases regional and seasonal limited flavors, adding up to more than 100 new products a year, and has built a loyal following across generations.
Thai cuisine has been growing in popularity in recent years, and in December 2024, tom yum kung was added to UNESCO's list of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Calbee previously released a tom yum kung-flavored chip in 2016, recreating an authentic taste that was well received at the time.
This new version has been reworked for a more familiar, easy-to-eat flavor, balancing a gentle heat that keeps people coming back for more. It's meant to offer something different from Calbee's standard flavors, even for those who already enjoy potato chips regularly.
